I really do love WWII history and games that focus on the period around it. Call of Duty 2 is in my opinion a superb mulitplayer game, , becouse your spawned immedietly were your friends are and theres none of the popping-up-between-the-crosshairs thing. Thumbs up for being allowed to play the Soviets to! I´ve just tried Company of heroes a tiny bit, but I instantly disliced the, eh, "historical incorrectnes". When it´s done for game balance I don´t really care, but when the Germans have stuff like propaganda and scorched earth doctrines, and when their soldiers gets braver when a few of them are shot just makes the game ridiculous. Game play-wise it seemed like a nice, fast paced RTS though, and me and a couple of friends is giving it a shot at an upcoming LAN.

I usually play games like "Hearts of Iron II", which is basically "Axis and allies", but on steroids. You control production, diplomacy, strategy, trade and more... The "Total War" series have been my favourites for a long time too, but i haven't been able to play Medieval II because my computer couldn't handle it....

...but I ordered a new one yesterday! :tickled: With the loads of nice games that have been coming out during the year I see the berings of disaster for my social life the coming month or so though.

I love the Total War series as well. Especially Rome with a good mod can be awesome. Currently my favorite mod is Roma Surrectum.

This looks quite kickass! I´ve only played vanilla and the Rome: total realism (which was great by the way). Might reinstall the game for this mod while waiting for medieval...

Medieval is probably the best RTS I don't already own. Can't afford it quite yet, but by any and all accounts it is an excellent game.

If you all haven't already, get the Orange Box from Valve. The best compilation of games you will get for 50$. I personally guarantee that.

I played Medieval 2 for some time but I think I'll wait for some great mods to come out. The Total War series probably has one of the best and most professional modding communities I have seen.

@Displayofcharacter:

Ever tried out the Hearts of Iron, Victoria or Europa Universalis game series by paradox?

Nein. I've heard of Europa Universalis though, and will take another look. Right now I'm playing through the Half-Life franchise as a refresher for Ep. 2 (that I just bought). Damn I love those games... After that, I may finally get around to beating Supreme Commander.....

hecked out Call of Duty 4 and Hellgate: London demos, the former is pretty good, H:L is claimed to be Diablo in 3D, and IS pretty cool, but I haven't got into it... single player isn't anything cool for me any longer (unless it's Half-Life), but fans will be glad... till Blizzard gets something better out :p

Unreal Tournament III is promising as well, but I get dizzy way too soon into the actual demo.

Orange Box - didn't have time to pick up :-/

Crysis demo is coming out this week (25th?), anxious to see how resources demanding it's going to be :)

Putting together a home theatre - HD and stuff, not 1080p though, but it's not that much of a difference to human eye, as they say. However, it's quite enough of quality. Going to complete it with PS3 and Toshiba's HD DVD player + an upconvert 400 DVD changer. Still need a woofer and center speaker (I have no place in my roon to place rear speakers, so I'm settling for a crippled 5.1)

That shit IS loud and clear (sound by SONY, didn't have $$$ for anything fancy).

World of boring. I didn't go for the arcadey-feeling, and it was too simplistic for my RTSUBERCORE nature. Good game for people that like the idea of an RTS without too much resource management or geographical planning. Plus, the game is pretty...

Resources is what usually kills a good strategy for me; plus WiC is more tactics than actual strategy (there are not that many resources except points), but it's quite an arcade feeling game, that's true.

For shame. Buy it. Now.

For some reason, that game doesn't interest me much. I have a fairly high end comp (but not the tops) and I can barely run the recommended settings. I don't feel the need to buy a brand new video card to get some overhead over the recommended specs (GeForce 8800 320MB is recommended, and that's what I run). In a couple of years...

Goddamn man, that sounds sick. Who cares about 1080P because it only makes a difference at about 20 or so feet away, in certain lighting conditions. Its not that big of a deal.

I would still recommend it to casual RTS-ers though. It isn't bad, per se, just not for me. *goes back to half-life 2*

my guess is that you're getting a PS3 not because of games? :p

speaking of games, Portal is a blast. HL2: Ep2 is pretty much more of the same HL2 stuff which i'm not a very big fan of... and TF2 is just ok to me (i have to admit that it's awesome on an art direction front). But Portal... total fucking blast.

I think HD DVD is going to win the "format war".

Just was looking at the titles on Amazon: HD DVD has more cool titles (all Hollywood action flicks - what else would I need HD for?) + they have Motorhead and TV shows on them already. Players are like $230 on Amazon (for 1080i, ~280 f0r 1080p), plus they upconvert regular DVDs. A no-brainer.

Still, porn industry has to say it's "Aye". But I think I know what they are going to say :)
