I usually listen to Still Life all the way through, if time permits.

I usually skip 2-3 songs on Ghost Reveries, regardless of time.

SL all the way, baby.

Bingo. The dingo ate yo baby.

difficult comparison, but overall, and if you really literally put a gun to my head, still life...
but i love every album for different reasons...
still life... for godhead's lament esp.
but i love GR....
ugh.
these polls are tough!

Plain and simple friend, kicks the living shit out of GR.

It's just a classic. There isnt a single song on that album that I cant say that I wasnt impressed with. Songs like the Moor, Godheads Lament and Serenity Painted Death alone eat anything on Ghost Reveries alive.

Overall, the sound on SL is just so much warmer, and more pleasent then on GR, and the album flows from song to song a whole lot more smoothly. A lot of people are big on the whole concept behind this album, but regardless, this is one beautiful fucking album.

(sort of an unrelated edit here - I notice that your into MDB Sadpoet, they're one of my favorite bands. What's your favorite album... if you say 34.788% complete, someones gonna get hurt)

I guess I'm just ruined because Still Life reminds me of my ex-boyfriend and that stupid Rue Morgue magazine because I bought the album while he was with me and I would listen to it alot around him and when I wasn't around him I would listen to it while looking through my Rue Morgue mags and I would do this for hours. So now there will always be an unpleasant and ruined connection between Rue Morgue and Still Life. When I see one, I always think of the other. AHHHHHHH.

I like the sound of GR better, and it has some songs that are better than some of Still Life's, but Still Life is a better album, it has less weak moments.

GR is more mature. Still life was where I belive they were JUST starting to go in their current musical direction, it still to me is more primitive sounding than all after it.

Still Life slaughters Ghost Reveries, how anyone can think GR is better is beyond me.

^ That makes 2 of us. I'm still tryin to figure out that meaningless hype.

I think the "hype" is speaking for itself in this thread. 84.44% currently think SL owns GR. Usually the newer/fresher record gets all the hype, but this time the tables have turned.

SL is not my fav Opeth record, but GR (although very good) can be slow and repetetive in places :hypno:

This poll makes me proud. It really does. It just doesn't seem fair to be putting Still Life up against such a great album though. I know that Still Life wins by default because it's a masterpiece, but I think Ghost Reveries really does deserve its own recognition for being a fantastically solid album.

1) Disagree with all of what you said about Still Life Vs. Ghost Reveries lol, but fair enough.
2) I also love My Dying Bride, and funnily enough, 34.788% Complete IS my joint favourite MDB album, along with The Dreadful Hours. I guess that just means I suck, but still.... Sinamorata is an excellent live DVD too :Spin:

Im not gonna fault you for the 34.788% Complete part, just cause you mentioned the Dreadful Hours . I really want to get Sinamorata but I havent been able to find it, so maybe ill order it sometime...

For the record, I think a common misconcpetion that people make is when I say I like a certain album more, it means I hate the other album, I dont mind GR, but its not as good as a lot of people are making it out to be. It's just not as good as all the other albums to me. I may come off as critical but honestly I do respect everyones tastes. But when people start getting up tight about shit (which is common on this board Ive noticed) you kinda have to push back.

To be honest, I myself dont understand most of the "hype" around SL, but its the same with GR, I dont understand whats so great about that either. Then again, Im more of a BWP person :)
