Hardest year to do yet, simply because it's probably the weakest one.

Yeah, weakest year for me as well! Struggling to come up with a top 10 because there's quite a few pretty good albums, but nothing I consider really amazing.

listen to stutthof and shup

I own Towards Thy Astral Path which you recommended and enjoy it, but that was released in 2002. Are you talking about the Devotion to Black Arts compilation album?

I've been listening to Achernotas' second album, Theosis, which has the band members of Stutthof but isn't a direct continuation. It's pretty decent. Not sure if you'd like it, though.

I don't think I've ever heard a single Moonsorrow song so I can't comment there, but Ghost Reveries is pretty bad. I enjoy songs from all of their first 5 albums but nothing really on that album. "The Baying of the Hounds" is probably the best of a bad bunch. "Atonement" is embarrassingly bad.

You gotta get on Moonsorrow dude, they blend the best of black/folk/progressive IMO and have a huge range of emotion from dark to triumphant. Verisakeet or Havitetty are their best two.

As far as Ghost reveries- it's not perfect but has some great tracks especially Baying and Beneath the Mire. Atonement is good too IMO. Biggest thing I can fault it with is largely frontloading the better tracks. Isolation Years is pretty meh and Grand Conjuration almost feels like they wrote it wanting to shove in one more heavy song. Not a bad song, but disjointed in a way.
