Awesome list. I'm kind of surprised you didn't include Cult of Daath. Are you a fan?

Hardworlder isn't bad but it's pretty bland, the beginning of the end for Slough Feg, too much retro 70s self-aware bullshit. Atavism is a great album when listened to as an album and not a collection of songs.

Slough Feg haven't released a bad album, that's why I don't autistically lash out when someone prefers one of their albums over the one I like the most.

Does Nokturnal Mortum - Weltanchauung count? According to M-A the Ukrainian version (with ukrainian vocals) was released in 04 but the english version (with english vocals) in 05.

What do you like about it?

I think it pulls off the retro 70s style exceptionally well. Definitely disagree that it comes across as a collection of songs (that's actually sort of how I feel about Deadmen and Twilight, despite liking both) - if anything it achieves the full, flowing album experience more effectively than Atavism imo.

There really isn't anything from this year that really sticks out to me. Yeah, that Reverend Bizarre album is probably going to get the top spot because the Rev were and still are probably the best thing to ever happen to doom metal, but it's a pretty far cry away from that first album.

Fair enough, there are some moments where the retro 70s aspect works well. I don't disagree that Deadmen and Twilight are collections of songs either tbh. Even Traveller, despite being a concept album, is like a collection of songs. Atavism is the only one that really feels totally cohesive and lyrically married to its music.

Macabre Omen and Kawir. :D

I like it a lot but I don't think it quite reaches that level of massiveness that the rest of their records did. It did give us "Cromwell" though.
