click the album titles for sample songs (or the whole thing if it's a short demo/EP). nothing that really felt #1-worthy here, but there's still plenty of good shit.
@Phylactery will be pleased with such a BM-dominated list. azaxul might've made it too with more listens, and fleurety is the oddball curiosity i'll spend some more time with although it seems half fascinating half obnoxious. none of it is as good as the sorcier des glaces album from last year though.
i wish i was more enamoured with recent trad in a supposedly great year, but eh. hellwell, sons of crom (trad/BM hybrid), night, stygian fair, ravage and pagan altar were all pretty cool, off the top of my head. again, nothing to match the magic of last year's lethal steel IMO.
i quite liked plenty of thrash/speed leaning stuff like power trip, condor, malokarpatan (great cover art, lyrics, samples, that wild first couple mins, sixth track... the rest is just solid to me), bonehunter, bunker 66 etc, but only rupture, death/thrash from china of all places, really stood out. i didn't hear much pure DM i really enjoyed, but i'm pretty picky with it these days.
richard dawson's
peasant is my overall AOTY by far of course, and on a short list of all-time favourites.
gonna try to keep track of new music better this year.
