Good Doom Metal

well with Esoteric always coming up in almost all metal-related threads I guess I should put "check out Esoteric" a little higher on the musical priority list

esoteric isnt for everyone. its a doom fans dream come true, but i cant say youll like them unless you can sit and listen to what is essentially a musical nightmare you DONT want to wake up from. its an interesting experience, but if its your kind of thing...its a very rewarding one. easily in my top 10 metal bands at this point.

Solitude Aeturnus-into the sepths of sorrow, beyond the crimson horizon, through the darkest hour, adagio. Rob is my favorite clean vocalist.
Evoken-embrace the emptiness,quietus
Candlemass-epicus doomicus metallicus,nightfall,tales of creation
Cathedral-forest of equilibrium. For the person that wanted some more cathedral look into 'the ethereal mirror' and 'carnival bizarre', also these two great e.ps: soul sacrifice, cosmic requiem.
Paradise Lost-lost paradise,gothic
Saturnus-paradise belongs to you
My Dying Bride-as the flowers wither. MDB before clean vocals, pure crushing depressing doom/death. Trinity compilation also
Saint Vitus-mournful cries,V
The Gathering-always
Shape of Despair-angels of distress, illusion's play
Theatre of Tragedy-velvet darkness they fear. Crushing gothic doom with male growling vocals and female vocals from liv kristine
Reverend Bizarre-in the rectory of reverend bizarre, crush the insects
Pentagram-day of reckoning
Tiamat-clouds
Anathema-crestfallen e.p,pentecost 111 e.p,saranades,the silent enigma
Skepticism-stormcrowfleet
Electric Wizard-s/t,come my fanatics,dopethrone
Trouble-psalm 9,the skull,run to the light

still, it has to be listened with the volume turned to the max. otherwise it doesn't work the same...

some great stoner rock on there too

how about some stoner rock recommendations, too? tell me names i dont know

i have the classic stuff like kyuss, trouble, monster magnet...what else? tell me

mkay...

electric wizard - we live
quill - voodoo caravan
the sword - age of winters
firebird - deluxe

oh, and try Reverend Bizarre...not entirely stoner, definitely a hybrid between stoner and traditional doom ala candlemass and trouble...but maybe the best band in that vein since cathedral...definitely worth checking out.

i'm a big fan of silly wizard, but they are about as far removed from doom metal as james labrie is from knowing how to use his voice on a consistent basis. Still, the mention of electric wizard made me think of the silly one, so if you like folk, give'em a go right after that mdb record.
