Good goth, gothic metal recomendations

What have you misunderstood? I listed all gothic influenced bands. Right below, "True gothic metal is something you've never heard if you're under 30 years old".

In fact, NONE of these bands are 100% gothic. not even Lacuna.

You're free to get your own gothic definition.

My "own" gothic definition is just the definition that was applied to actual goth music like all the stuff I've listed in this thread already which was mostly released well before the concept of "gothic metal" even existed. Gothic metal as far as I'm concerned is mostly a superfluous and almost non-existant genre. Bands like Katatonia, Sentenced, Paradise Lost, etc. all share some characteristics of what could be considered gothic but still I would more readily lump those bands under other genres (in the case of Paradise Lost, as far as I'm concerned they are a gothic rock band nowadays rather than a metal band). And most of the female-fronted metal bands (which nowadays seem to be the main ones receiving the "gothic metal" label) don't seem very gothic to me either. Nowadays the term seems to be applied to almost any metal band that simply chose to have clean vocals rather than growls regardless of whether their sound shares any of the characteristics of the music that made up the 80's and early 90's goth scene.

Well, everybody knows evanescense or whatever its written its not goth. I like some of this but mostly the ones that are more metal infuenced.

CAIRATH : exactly, exactly, female-fronted metal bands don't seem very gothic to me, in fact nowhere in the history we can find the roots of this kind today. But it's not bad, I do like it pretty much.

And you said "the term seems to be applied to almost any metal band that simply chose to have clean vocals rather than growls regardless of whether their sound shares any of the characteristics of the music that made up the 80's and early 90's goth scene." I share that too, very well said! :headbang:

so do I, heavier are (in my eyes) more interesting. I dont (want) to know Evanescence but Im pretty sure their fans do enjoy their music. Using the words of Cairath, Nightwish is more powermetal (EVEN wikipedia rated them powermetal) (And I DO agree) because the high vocal and the rythmn is far from being gothic.

The beautidul thing, if there any, is the mixing of their culture into their music. The first time I listened to Ensiferum or CoB, or even Nightwish, I told me, wow sounds great, it sounded very 'native', the sound of their own land. Many bands like CoB or Amorphis use their roots into the metal kind and thats pretty cool.

I agree, not all female fronted are Goth even though many are classified like this. I agree about Nightwish thing too, it doesn't have a big Gothic influence its more like any other metal band with operatic voices and some symphony. I'm not searching something specifically labelled Gothic metal or some sort, just something heard within the music not read in the internet I'm searching something with considerable Goth influences mixed with some Metal. I have heard some electro Goth or some sort of shit like it but most just doesn't appeal to me.

Good example of post-gothic in my opinion. They have this creepy style, bats, hanged man, sounds like 'Nightmare before christmas' soundtrack or something...

It's just another branch of this post-gothic influence : neo-victorian, steampunk, dark wave and many others. Some of these musicians follow a concept about litterature, ghosts, zombies...

Here's an exemple :
Voltaire singing "The vampire club", hes a reference in this kind

you like it or not, I dont care AT ALL, this is just an exemple of this post-gothic influence

Were any of the bands mentioned Gothic Punk, I'm too lazy to listen to them all individually. I've been looking for good Gothic Punk.

What are some bands you already listen to that you consider gothic punk? If you mean deathrock, Christian Death is considered one of the pioneers of the genre and 45 Grave is another quintessential one (though they only have one full length album). Siouxsie & The Banshees have some punk'ish stuff as well.

I see. I have no idea then. Here's some MySpace pages for the stuff I mentioned but it will probably not be what you are looking for then (it's all from the 80's).

http://www.myspace.com/christiandeath (Though the tracks on their MySpace are from after they started to suck massively so this is not too useful. I would steer well clear of anything they have released since 1986.)

Aiden and MCR are pop-punk, they just dress like fags because sadly it's one way of getting more fans.

Its what is popular, that's y their fag clothes. And now i remember Aiden, that thing its a shame to misfits with their fucking covers that sound all gay when the original songs kickass. Well, this isn't a faggot bashing thread so lets forget it.
