dude, relax. slayer could become a Trivium tribute band and this forum would still worship every overrated note.
 
Random Observations Concerning Slayer:

I never hated Diabolus in Musica, but the only songs I would qualify as high Slayer quality are Desire and Point really. Different album, but not stupid. Just sorta lags.

Reign in Blood, Seasons in the Abyss, and Divine Intervention are all 10/10 BUY OR FUCKING DIE albums. I know I'm in the vast minority concerning Divine Intervention but I tossed that one on a few nights ago and fuck me does it still rule beyond belief. The 3-way assreaming attack of Sex. Murder. Art., Fictional Reality, and Dittohead still kick my dick in like nothing else.

I've never much enjoyed Hell Awaits, except the title track and Hardening of the Arteries. That and God Hates Us All are the only Slayer albums I can't make it through in one sitting. lurch is now prepared to break up with me, I know. :loco:

This new one, while simple in execution, is taking its time warming up to me. I'm enjoying it but I'm not too sure about lasting appeal just yet. I miss the creepy days of shit like 213 and Dead Skin Mask.

Reign in Blood is an excellent CD to fuck to, yet Seasons in the Abyss is great whacking material.

Slayer has been one of my all time favorite bands for some 14 years now. There's simply no other band like them.
 
what's great about HELL AWAITS is that it is so different from their other discs ... long songs and kind of complex structures ... HAUNTING THE CHAPEL ep as well ...

and the fact that RIB came after Hell Awaits is a complete mindfuck in itself.
 
Hell Awaits is one of my least favorite Slayer albums, but I agree with your point about what makes it unique. The first Slayer album I heard was RiB, then I went back and bought the earlier stuff. I remember when South of Heaven came out I was initially really disappointed South of Heaven by the slower style--it eventually became my favorite album. The fact that RiB is bracketed by those two albums is odd.

Considering popping in Still Reigning, decided against it--I'm beat. (That might make me a pussy, even though I DO listen to Slayer.)
 
I've listened to Christ Illusion like 10 times today. I'm still not sure where I stand on it, but that's a good thing because grower albums from familiar bands usually turn out on top a few months down the road. [/broken record]

Also is it just me or does Lombardo look like he has cancer or something? Fucker looks weak and tired in the liner notes of the new one. :erk:

Also the live version of The Antichrist on Decade of Aggression, he makes my favorite Slayer song like 10x better. :kickass: :kickass: :kickass:
