The concept - Metal is not for everyone.

Opeth are for everyone, especialy since the release of Damnation. This kind of goes against... metal.

Opeth aren't for everyone. "Damnation" was more of an expirement, so what does it matter as long as they make good music? Maybe it's not metal

"To mainstream or not to mainstream –*that is the question", as Hamlet would have said if he'd seen this thread.

Opeth became "rumsrent" in Sweden (that's Swedish for "acceptable") after the release of Damnation – :yuk: they even appeared on the TV morning shows, playing to the housewives and unemployed! :yuk:

Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of taste/preference. Personally I couldn't give a fuck WHO else likes the choons, just as long as Mikael o grabbarna keep on making 'em! :worship:

music is music...example (and i dont care if you like the band of not) Modest Mouse came out a while ago with great music and great songwriting...recently, they become "famous" because of a few thousand ad campaigns. did i know this when i went out to buy the cd? shit no. i bought the new one and two of the old ones and i said, damn these guys are good. it didnt matter which one i listened to, my mood about the band was not based on how they were doing "socially"...on a commercial level. personally i think the exact opposite. if a band isnt making any money and they play music i like, id rather they be considered sellouts so i can get a copy of their music (and so they can keep creating more).
Opeth isn't and probably never will get to the sellout stage, but just a lesson for those people who think if music they listen to goes pop, they should stop listening to it...let alone stop supporting it.

Peace :flame:
