Guitar tone on WCFYA

Mmm, I know what you mean. I'm not sure it isn't the mix, though. The guitras seem a bit quieter overall in comparision to the drums and vocals on this one.

agreed max - I think the tone is the best Bush era guitar tone from any album

You know I love the music/ lyrics on among the living buut I hate the vocals and tone. It was good for the time but does not measure up to todays standards.

I think it holds up fine against today's "sound". No mids, plenty of raging distortion.....the dif is Randall is a solid state amp and Marshall is tube. "Warm instead of brittle" is how I can best describe it. I don't know much about tubes and shit, but I know the sound dif and I agree with an earlier post, Marshall or nuthin. Hell, Scott uses Marshall for S.O.D. so I think he uses the 2 dif amps for the 2 dif bands although if I'm incorrect, I'm sure it'll be pointed out! :) It's all Anhrax therefore it's all good.

Yea the only problem with the 80's sound was that the recording equipment was inferior. The actual amp tone is RIPPING, just listen to some of the live stuff. I actually play guitar and have been trying to get scotts tone from Among for years.

Among the Living sounds very dated, very, very dated. Eddie Kramer is a genius at producing live records (ask KISS) but all of his studio stuff sounds old, it must because of his simplistic approach.

Very true, I have also gone out of my way to find tubes for my Mesa Dual Recto. Currently I am running some Russian EL-34 tubes (british sounding). Its an expensive hobby, but totally worth it.

I think that the sound he had on V8 and Stomp was the best. . . I'm with most of you I don't care for the sound as much... but I really like the songs for the most part.... its not the best Anthrax record by any means..(my thinking) .. V8 rules . . . but songs like Super Hero and Safe Home rock !!!!! Now that I think about it. . .its not has much the tone as it is the sound he is getting from those 80's riffs. .. . .tone ??? riffs ??? hummmm???? Interesting ?@???@?@?@&*#)&$)#*&#)&$#(

I actually like Scott's tone better now then ever... its progressed over the years.

I love ATL, but the tone is a little too scooped for my liking. The guitars were really nice and punchy on 442 and vol 8, but believe me... the tone he has coming out of those cyclones and warheads could rip the skin off an elephant.

Tone is very subjective, especially for guitar players. Lets put it this way... Scott's tone at moderate volume knocked my chicken wrap off a road case two summers ago. I don't know if that antecdote makes sense, but I figured I'd share.
