Guitarists: Prepare to be disheartened

You've got to be fucking kidding, dude. While I won't comment on the possible negative effects on the kid's mental growth.

Why not?

Sanzen said:
It's not MUSICAL, but it's still something that he's obviously worked hard on and has a knack for.

I wasn't degrading him because he isn't musical, or because he didn't possess feel. I was degrading him because he's just another guitar technician to join the myriad of other wankers out there. It makes no difference to me if he's 8 or 18.

That kid is amazing.

In what way?

That's a whole other area that I really don't feel like discussing, especially because we really don't know anything about the kid - if his parents are pushing him to practice 5 hours a day, what the rest of his social and home life is like, etc.

it DOES make a difference! He's eight years old. Say an 8 year old kid writes a semi-futuristic spy thriller that instantly sells millions of copies, is at the top of the NY Times Bestseller chart, etc. Sure, it's just another Tom Clancy spy-thriller, which has been done over and over to the point of becoming forumulaic, but still - he's EIGHT!

I see where you're coming from man, but I think simply dismissing him because he's playing stuff that you don't like is going a little too far. That kid is incredibly talented, and I think that just blowing him off as "just a wanker" is a little ignorant.

guitarmaster, that kid is 8 years old and I bet he trashes you, so you have no right to say shit about him.

Although I'm more serious about my vocals than I am my guitar skills, I applaud that kid and his ability. At eight years old I was still learning how to shoot hoops correctly, while this kid is shredding faster than an extremely huge chunk of guitarists worldwide. So what if he only knows scales? He's better than you, and to say he sucks is just arrogant.

PRAISE GOD, at least one kid who isn't swallowed up by the anti music culture...

I swear to God thats going to be son one day, My God this kid owns...

How would you know?

Hardly. There are thousands that wank, including these kid wankers you're starting to see on the internet.

So, I'm a subpar guitarist because I think a kid's speed isn't extremely impressive? Nice logic, Jinn.

Dark Thane, made the best point: speed isn't really an obstacle, it looks much harder than it is to the untrained eye. Speed has always been overpraised.

For the record, I never said he sucked, Jinn, but he's doing nothing that I haven't seen anyone else do, or some of these other child wankers.

Wow. We all went through a cheesy metal phase and this kid is getting it out of the way early. I imagine when he is at the mature age of 12 he will have some emotional music to go along with that technique:) This kid has a gift and I bet soon he will have some taste. I'm not jealous , I'm just amazed.

Did you see my post?

Good one. Would you like to go back and change your posts now, so as to not look like a complete fuckhead?

Not at all, Sanzen. What, do you enjoy being among the legions of clueless guitarists and/or spectators who seem to believe that speed is the most difficult technique to master?

Nice to see how tolerant you are of another's opinion.

HE'S EIGHT YEARS OLD. You still have yet to address my question, which simply leads me to believe that you don't have an answer for it. If speed is a purely physical and mechanical skill, how is that kid's playing different from a kid managing to run a 3-minute mile?

Nice to see how tolerant you are of another's opinion.

Hmm...in my last post, I remember saying "I see where you're coming from" and generally being decent towards you. I WANTED to see your response to my post (which you have yet to give), and when i ask you about it, I get your smart-ass reply. BUT WAIT! All of a sudden I'M the ignorant one!

Get off it dude. You're an elitist prick who refuses to acknowledge an EIGHT YEAR OLD's physical ability. I'm thinking it's so you can look cool and everyone will say, "Hey, that Guitarmaster...he's so above that silly "speed" issue!"

Come on man. Throw down a recording. If that whole speed thing is so easy, let's see you lay it down.

Guitarmaster, unless you could do that when you were eight, you can stfu.

People getting offended at the fact that I'm unimpressed by a kid shredding on a guitar is not only childish, it's fucking stupid. Get over it. Why should you care about my opinion on the matter?

I never touched an instrument during my childhood years, Jinn. My parents understood that it's crucial to have a healthy and productive childhood.

Awful comparison, Sanzen, which was one of the reasons why I didn't bother to answer it. Not because I'm attempting to be a smartass towards you.

Sure, shredding on the fretboard is a physcial skill, obtained by constant hours of practicing the precise exercises that enhance your hand's mobility and control. Sure, your wrist and forearm will tire easily as a complete novice to the instrument, or most instruments for that matter, but it isn't a technique that is acquired only by maturity and growth.

Which is a quality that is necessary for a kid to be in the type of physical condition you speak of, at least for one to run the 3-minute mile, or to excel in strenuous physical activities. Unless there is a "freak" of some sort, that was born with the perfect genetics. I forget the child's name, but there was one case I heard of concerning that matter. I'll search for him later on.

How many children have you seen--mostly on the internet--with the ability to play their instruments at a qualified speed? Quite a few youngsters have risen and shown us just that. Speed can be obstained on an instrument at a fairly quick pace, child or not, and you don't need the genetics or the I.Q. to be an instrumental technician, for that matter. You don't have to be a "freak". However, if he is a theory wizard, I'll give him loads of credit.

How many children have you seen with the ability to lift weights, run at extreme distances, or was an adult's equal in martial arts? Not many at all.

Your question doesn't make sense.

I'm sorry you took it that way. Your answer is above.

Don't put words in my mouth, Sanzen. I never implied that you were.

Dude, he's a fucking fatass. And I already discussed how one, child or not, can obtain hand dexterity without being gifted on an instrument.

If I had the proper equipment, and knew how to operate a computer correctly, I'd be more than happy to comply.
