Guthrie Govan

easily swayed eh?

:p

Never. I was kidding of course.

I started this thread to turn folks on to a guitarist they may not have known. He's not really in the spotlight and there's not much published about him.

Funny how it always becomes a silly "he's not so great, this guy's better" kind of thing. I guess that's guitarists for you.

Like...at the bottom of an Ocean?

In all seriousness I never could stand oboe...conveniently enough a lot of the pieces we did in symphonic band in high school and long oboe solos despite our glaring lack of competent woodwind players :puke:

I like woodwinds, Oboe's cool, I have more problems with horns but in the hands of good jazz players they are fine

I'm reviving this thread so as not to completely hijack the 'Now Listening' thread in the main section...

Incredible live footage, excellent quality!

Guthrie is one of my new favourite players...

Btw, where did everyone who has his album get it from? I'm thinking I'll order it direct from Cornford Records, anyone had any experience with them?

I'm heaps keen to try a Cornford amp though, Guthrie's tone is incredible, and I believe Greg Howe used one on his new album also...

When I got it, that was the ONLY place to get it. I don't think that has changed.

His tone is incredible. His technique contributes to that more than anything...but that combined with the cornfords has created some sort of supertone. Yep...supertone. And yes, Howe is using them now too.

They just came out with a "low" end line (really not right to call it that). it's called the roadhouse series...i think there's a head, a 1x12, and a 2x12 in the series. The ONLY difference between those and the rest of their lineup is that they have printed circut boards instead of being hand-wired. There's a video on youtube of Guthrie demoing them (with Fives) at tone merchants back at NAMM. Great tone. I'm waiting until the Mark V hits the market before I make a decision on a new amp...but the cornford is a serious contender.

yeah, I would just get it through cornford. Amazon.com has had Erotic Cakes listed since it's release, but has never actually had it in stock. Could be the same case with Abstract Logix. They were working on distribution deals a while back but nothing ever really came of it. Soon after the album's release, a shitload or so copies were stolen from the cornford warehouse (along with some guitars) and I think that's what initially put a kink in the pipes, but I don't know what the status is now. Another thing to look into getting is the tonemerchants dvd. It's bootleg quality (some of the stuff from it is on youtube), but the sound is great and the playing is FTW. It's super cheap...I don't know if they'll ship to you or if there will be issues with the DVD itself (it's homemade essentially...not sure if dvd players in australia are different than the ones here).
