LOL Dan, thanks for the funny comment! And needless to say, I agree with you.

And I tend to agree with Oinkness....reviews in today's age are rather pointless now. It's just as quick and easy for someone to do an internet search and actually download a clip or a song or even a whole cd, and judge for themselves, which is what I'd much rather they did.

I get too upset about this sort of thing, not only because it affects us in instances such as this one, but because I am a big fan of music publications, and have been for most of my life. One big regret I have is that I never pursued journalism, because I'd love to write for a magazine. I have so much musical history in my head from reading rock magazines since I was about 7 years old. I feel very honored to have been featured prominently in mags like Metal Maniacs and BW&BK over the years, since I was buying and reading those mags religiously for years before ever appearing in them. Of course it sucks to have to see a negative review of your band, or a friends band, or a band you really like, but when it's at least done constructively and objectively, I have respect for it. Even as a broke musician I have no qualms about slapping down $5 or $7 for a good rock/metal magazine.....but when I see piss poor writing and critical journalism such as this, I'm offended.

As for the comparisons thing.....y'know I've started to look at it a bit differently lately, especially since reading reviews for TNR. I've seen us compared to sounding like MDB, Opeth, Katatonia, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Amon Amarth, Edge of Sanity....amongst others. Y'know, in my mind, even if we are really similar to that group of mixed bands, I think that's a pretty goddamn good mix for a band to sound like :) Every one of those bands kicks ass, in my opinion. We may not be as groundbreaking or popular or unique as some of those bands are/were, but that's ok. We're not trying to reinvent the wheel here, just write some enjoyable music for people who like that kind of music. Plain and simple.

here's a new one for ya Larry, apparently someone out there thinks you're gothic too! :heh:

Hell, that I don't mind so much, for one thing because I can see how certain songs and elements in our music could be considered Gothic-metal sounding to some. But I also like alot of those bands on that list, so again, it's not such bad company to keep. Just a bit misinformative for people. I think people expecting to hear something Gothic will be quite surprised when they listen to "Drown the Inland Mere" or "Dark World Burden" for the first time

I must admit, before I first heard you guys, I long thought you guys were a goth metal band. Then I heard the first notes off Harmony Divine, and I have never been the same!

well of course, i also like a lot of those bands. but novembers doom is still on it while nightwish got removed for apparently not being gothic enough :loco:

Hey Paul, I followed the band since a lil while now, I know your songs and this album is awesome. Personaly I dont recommend to read ANY critics, some of them are themselves not talented enough to play in a band. There's no objectives comments only subjectives ones so it's only opinions in the end..

keep it up, people are behind you

(sorry for my english I'm french speaker..)

Years ago I reviewed CD's for a punk zine that had really good distribution and I got fired about a year in due to all my reviews being negative. It was fun while it lasted. I was honest...the stuff was crap.

I've never seen you before but you sound like a pretty person by the way you type and express yourself. :D

All reviews, good or bad serve their purpose. It's exposure anyway you look at it. This guy hates growls, others will read that and say "Hey, I like growls, I need to check this out." No one likes a negative review, but as we said, it at least needs to be professional, and this was not.

Even good reviews are flawed with wrong information. Some people mistake vocal effect for auto tuning. ;)

I'm sure everything you've said is true. However, why have someone review a CD who will dismiss anything with growls? It makes the reviewer look like an idiot and it makes the zine staff look incompetent for assigning him the review. Beyond that, it will (in many cases) cause the band, its label and its fans to hold a poor view of the zine. Hell, even if I didn't like your music, but was familiar with it, I would read that review and completely dismiss that zine.

If you get a few minutes, any chance you could expound a bit? I'm not sure I understand the difference. Thanks.

That was precisely my point from the very start. Thank you. :)
