I managed to download a promo copy (with voiceovers :ill: ) of the new album "Threshold".

The opener 'Threshold' started with a simple but obnoxious keyboard, that made me :zombie: , but luckily the songs blows with the typical Hammerfall energy. The next songs 'The Fire Burns Forever', 'Rebel Inside', 'Natural High', are the typical songs the band has become famous (or infamous) with. 'Dark Wings, Dark Words' is their mandatory ballad, while 'Howlin With The Pack', 'Shadow Empire', 'Carved In Stone', 'Reign Of The Hammer', 'Genocide' and 'Titan' complete the album with exactly what you expect from them.

So in a nutshell Hammerfall does nor change their formula (like Helloween or Blind Guardian have done one time or another), they're as "static" in their proposal as Motorhead or AC/DC and I love them exactly for that. I will not recieve a nasty surprise with them, I can buy the album with absolute certainty

If you like the band this will not disappoint you, if you don't stay out cause nothing new is coming this way.

Is it just as good or better than the last album??

Good question. I didn't examined it that throughly I must say it goes around, but maybe not as good as "Crimson Thunder"

I have not heard Glory to the Brave but...

Legacy of Kings was their best and I compare all their albums to that. Renegade gets kinda boring toward the end. Crimson Thunder was better than Renegade and Chapter V which kinda felt very simlar to Renegade. So if its as good as Crimson Thunder I should be okay. i eally liked the last albums cover art though. With Renegade and Chapter V I listen to the first ffour songs and then usually get kinda bored. I still love the band though, just nothing holds a candle to LOK.

Hammerfall is great, but I take them in moderation. They haven't really progressed much since their first album.

They do sound the same........ LIKE TRUE METAL!!!!! hahaha sorry .

It's all in ther ear of the beholder actually. I DO like the fact that the band does not change their sound drastically (I do feel them more consistent now than in the debut, but that's because the same line-up continues since "Renegade"). Of course some hate that in a band and prefer evolution (or involution like in Metallica :heh:).

legacy of kings -is an all out masterpiece from the first second to the last, and all moments have a great identity. Renegade was good too, tunder was a huge step down, and V had nothing for me, I am not looking forward to this new one as I feel they have changed their sound to this V type stuff, but as I read, according to you they havent changed? interesting views.

The last album was a bit of a disappointment for me. It was still ok and what you expect from Hammerfall but it fell short of the first 4 albums.

I hope the new one is better.

I prefer bands that evolve or experiment without losing their focus or their definitive sound, but bands that don't change ANYTHING annoy me; bands like Slayer. :erk:

I don't feel "V" was a change except the use of Cronos harsh vocals in the last song. But Hammerfall is a guilty pleasure of mine and therefore I'm not being very objective.

On the other hand I don't feel this is a superb album compared to LOK or CT, but as long as they don't sell out...

"Chapter V" was a letdown for me after the well crafted "Crimson Thunder", they tried too much to sound like Accept and failed on most songs IMO.

I have to agree with Authentic Metalhead here, nowadays I'm more interested in bands that experiment a little bit with their style, and I feel that Hammerfall had already reached their limits on Crimson Thunder. I can't see them releasing something as good, diversified and "fresh" now, but I might be wrong...

In case anyone cares...the cover

Glory to th eBrave is my fav release from Hammerfall. Renegade has been the one I have had most trouble getting into. With that said, Hammerfall is one of those bands like Wyvern said, you know what you're getting pretty much, so I intend on buying it!

I think these guys are so cheese-tacular. That is not always a bad thing however. Hammerfall are not something I would listen to on a regular basis. Not even close, however in small doses they can be a real fun listen. On a side not, some of the pictures of these guys make me laugh nearly as much as Immortal promo shoots:lol:

Curious you mention it actually I also got a "hard" time with the album in its time, but now in retrospective I enjoy it a lot.

GTTB was my second album (I received LOK first as a gift) and as much as I enjoy certain songs I feel the band primitive in its proposal and feel albums from "Renegade" on much developed...by Hammerfall standards

I don't mind a certain amount of well cured cheese like Hammerfall, Dream Evil, Cryonic Temple or Majesty but I can't stand Manowar.
