Holy sweet Jesus!!

I refer back to my earlier post hehe. Lots of good stuff in that list......but even if you only listen to each one ONCE (yeah right) that's a freaking ton of listening time. Of course this is not really a bad thing that there's so many good bands out there :headbang:

I guess I would compare things to Spider-Man 3, It's good, but it's not Spider-Man 1 and 2 good. It made more money then the previous ones but it's on name recognition alone. Everyone went to see it including myself no matter how bad a picture the reviews painted, it's Spider-Man FFS.

I think Ghost Opera was a lot like Spider-Man 3, it's not bad, I don't hate it and it's Kamelot FFS, however it doesn't live up to the previous albums.

Alot of the bigger names have disappointed, they haven't been all bad or 100% burn it in a fire. There are 1 - 3 redeeming songs per usually, like the new Freedom Call for example, there are like 3 great songs and the rest is meh, still better then Circle of Life though, but it's no Eternity.

Yes, Dimmu was good and so was Rain Time, absolutely. I guess it's my fault for being vague in the begining but I really didn't want to offend anyone by dissing their favorite bands, even if they may agree or not.

I've been dissapointed with a few albums this year (Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, and Samael come to mind), but there have been plenty of albums that have kicked my ass. The new albums from Dark Tranquillity, Ensiferum, Beneath the Massacre, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Akercocke, Vital Remains, and Finntroll have all been excellent.

Thanks for the awesome list. I'll have to use this a point of reference for future purchases this year.

Oh, and for those that have mentioned Threshold ... new album is awesome! :headbang:

I have to completely disagree with you about this year. There have already been great albums from bands I enjoy, such as:

21.05 Devin Townsend - Ziltoid The Omniscient
25.05 Sonata Arctica - Unia
28.05 Turisas - The Varangian Way
01.06 Kamelot - Ghost Opera
29.06 Haggard - Tales Of Ithiria
20.07 Avantasia - The Scarecrow
31.08 Epica - TBA
26.09 Nightwish - TBA
········ Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked - Part 1)

Most certainly is a good year. Pretty much all my favourite artists are releasing their albums this year. And your list only went up to September. Should be some solid albums the last 3 months of the year. Hoping Orphaned Land gets released this year as well. Ziltoid & Turisas came at me from out of no where and both are solid albums.

I may just have to give the new Dark Tranquillity album a listen, I haven't read a bad review yet and Character was a killer album. Perhaps after my Arsis stuff arrives. :headbang:

Glad to hear that. I LOVE the one CD of their's I have (can't remember the name.) I'll check it out!

Since it will be a pain in the ass more most people to find (I did get one from ebay for only 16.95 though - score) I'd recommend searching around to see if you can download a tune called "Rooting for the Bad Guy" or "The Revolution Will Be Televised" they're pretty typical of the album and the band itself. (Rooting being more rock, while the riffs/rythyms of Revolution are reminiscent of punk) Agressive, riffy, melodic, great driving music.

Cheers,
Jeff

IMO it doesn't come close to Character, but that's one of my favorite albums ever so not much does. It doesn't seem to flow as well, but each individual song is fantastic.

I kinda agree with you. When manowar offered their new cd as a digital download, I jumped on it.
I then FORCED myself to listen to the whole thing on one long drive - and promptly removed the entire album from my ipod.

I've since added it back, and i'm not nearly as disappointed as I was originally. The good songs are really good and classic manowar. the 'filler' is still (at best) just okay, but even good filler just weighs down the album such that at the end, you feel the album is really sloooooooow.

Fantastic production, and overall I like it more than Triumph of Steel or Louder than Hell, but I believe there are about 4 'filler' tracks that I'll remove permanently from the album.

Well, I gotta say the new Manowar sux. Too muich filler, I havent even put it back in the cd player since the week it came out. Considering that the new Saxon was realeased on the same day - and is a very good cd, I doubt that Manowar will even see a spin on the home stereo - which is probably how it is meant to be heard, but sorry, if I have to skip that many "tracks" it's not worth my time & attention.

Have yet to listen to the new Iced Earth, Kamelot etc. I will wait until I can get my hands on the full cds before I make any decisions.

Oh, and the new Wildhearts cd is freaking great - much more along the lines of the classic "Earth Vs. the Wildhearts" for anyone into crunchy, riffy, harmony laden - good time ass kicking rock & roll.

Of course - the least disappointing thing of 2007 metal so far is the continued kickassness that is PP. I try not to check the page too often so there is always something new - but as I rely on this page and the people here for metal news - I cant stay away. Is it Rocktober yet?

jeff

I think you are jumping the gun on 2007. Therion made me a fan with "Gothic Kabbalah", and the rest of this year is going to be explosive. Unless most of the CD's coming up lays one gigantic egg, 2007 is going to be the biggest year in metal since 1976. Quite possibly the greatest metal year in history.

I think if you're disappointed with the quality of releases so far this year, you're into some real heavy drug or out of your mind... lol just my opinion though =) lol

If only.

A better joke would be to tell me to get sand out of my vagine and go listen to some EMO music then.
