if you don't have a news reader you can't go to a newsgroup. So I suggest doing a google on "Xnews" and download it it's simple to use once you know what does what.
but here's a few steps to take. first install it of course. and then i think the first thing that happens is it prompts you to type in the server name. so then you type in: news-server.yourisp.com
so if you were using roadrunner in houston it would be thus: news-server.houston.rr.com
and then it asks you to slap a label on it. type in whatever you want. and then it either immediately asks if you want to retreive the list or you have to manualy open the news server and then it does it. if manualy just got to server and then click on the name you gave it. it'll take a bit to get the list. and then once the server is open type in "metal" in the little search window at the bottom.
and it'll grab every news group with metal in the title. so pick the one that says: alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.heavy-metal
double click it. it'll take more time to pull up all the files. they are encoded for quick downloading. it'll take like 10 minutes or less on broadband to actualy save the album. anyway.
there should be some files that have little light blue icons next to them that look like packages. that is a file that has been split up for the encoding and then just grouped together so you don't have to select them all. (NOTE! the DARK blue ones mean that the file is not complete) if they are not grouped then there is a button at the bottum next to the search window that is a T click it that'll group them. you'll need to search for anthrax and read the whole text of the file name to make sure it's the one you're looking for. click to highlight the first track and then hit the space bar, that'll put a number beside the file name then keep doing that until they all have numbers. you have just "Queued" it then hit the "decode" button which is next to the "stop" button at the bottom. and that downloads it into a file in the xnews folder called downloads. I hope you enjoyed this edition of "Xnews for dummies" and hurry the files don't stay forever.
