Hey what are your favourite bands guys?

i like music from many genre's. my favorite metal bands are: dragonforce (i don't mean to enter a dragonforce debate with that statement but they are what got me into power metal sooo yeah) i also like freedom call, power quest, theocracy, and rhapsody of fire (i of course like more metal bands but they are my favorites)

Yeah me too I think that DragonForce was the first power metal band I've heard....I wish that I would hear Power Quest first though.

You posted a song of a band called DragonLand in the rate songs thread(simialr to dragonforce in the name haha) and I really got into that band since then. :)

My current favourite band would have to be Sonata Arctica (Winterheart's Guild). Discuss.

Yes.
Got to say Sonata are probably my all time favourite band - they were the first Power Metal I listened to. Reckoning Night was the first album I got and it's still one of my all-time favourites. Winterheart's Guild is also a great album though.

all of the power metal bands mentioned here are all real good other than "DragonFarce". i know that they have potential and my personal favorite members are Vadim and Fred (ok and Sam cos he was in PQ) but they just dont seem to get how "so far away" they are from sounding entirely good on any of their albums. i will however "wait for the day" when they have a good album.

anyway, i'm glad that the first power metal band i have ever heard of was Rhapsody when the name was still Rhapsody in 2004. real good times cos i was like, "Nerd Metal? Thats fucking awesome!"

Power Quest
Dragonforce
Satyricon
Disturbed
A7X (Avenged Sevenfold)
Kamelot
Hammerfall
DJ Tiesto
Paul van Dyk(e)
Tim Berg & Avcii
Swedish House Mafia
Armin van Buuren
...well that pretty much wraps it all up for me guys! :)

*please insert my requisite bitching about how bad their last two albums have been here* :loco:

You know, of all the controversial topics in the world, I believe that between you and me, we could go on for hours with just this one

I love the direction they're going  The songwriting is just superb on TDOG, songs like Deathaura and The Dead Skin are just amazing! Love the lyrics too, especially in the latter song.

Tony does seem to be monopolizing the band a bit, I mean, he even did half the keyboards on the last album himself, and Elias is used for more percussive rhythms than actual melodies or riffs... but I think it could be a lot worse! Plus, without Jani leaving we would never have gotten Cain's Offering, which was easily my favorite album of 2009. And Elias always has his solo work, which is actually really good, especially his new album.

Though I can't say I'd be upset if they released another Reckoning Night...

Yeah, I must say that Cain's Offering kicked ass! It seems like less than a co-incidence to me that Jani leaves and comes up with something awesome and Tony doesn't. The plot thickens!

Days of Gays = utter compost!

Sorry, gotta disagree there! I admit I do miss the old Sonata of the first 4 albums, but I still really enjoy the music they're putting out - and some of the songs on DoG were fantastic!

Flag in the Ground / The Last Amazing Grays / Zeroes / As If the World Wasn't Ending are all awesome tracks IMO.

Although..

If they did, I think I'd just have to make a pilgrimage to Kemi to bask in the awesomeness.

I'll let you have the first 2. Flag and Last Amazing are damn good tracks. 8 more of those and we would have been fine.

I still think Zeroes is an awesome track with great lyrics. However, I'm also a Sonata fanboy and am pretty biased because I'm in love with Tony Kakko
