Hey what are your favourite bands guys?

I still think Zeroes is an awesome track with great lyrics. However, I'm also a Sonata fanboy and am pretty biased because I'm in love with Tony Kakko

Yes. This. Zeros is amazing, not only the music but the lyrics. The screams actually fit in this song very very well. I liked all their albums to be honest, some songs I do not like but that is about 6 songs total. I actually liked the Wolf and Raven remake, its a different mood for a different time really, but I still love the original

Have any of you heard Tony's work with Powerglove? If not:

I've been a massive fan of Powerglove before they were signed and only existed on MySpace with an EP, I've mentioned them on here a few times and now because Pokemon got covered everyone's excited about them  It's good, check out all they've done if you have any love for vg metal :headbang: Tony's such a sport for guesting too (also on their The Simpsons track).

Also, Sonata's Unia was...urgh...5 minutes of good listening there if that. Bit of a misstep with their more proggy direction but Days of Grays was very enjoyable. Except the "dancing at the borderline" bit, that sucks. :p

Powerglove put on a hilarious, active show when I saw them open for Sonata. Throwing out inflatable flags and swords to the audience... I think my girlfriend still has the sword!

Gotta be

Sonata Arctica
Meat Loaf (bat out of hell 1,2&3 + new album, I don't care much for most the stuff he put out in between)
Power Quest
Europe (though not a fan of the first two albums)

and I would say Wintersun, but I don't really feel as though I can class as one of my favourite bands after 1 album, even if it is one of my favourite albums of all time! Speaking of time, a tentative 2011 release is pretty exciting news (despite that being said for years now)

EDIT: on the topic of powerglove, i freaking love these guys. Like, I remember when I first heard their tetris/power rangers covers, i thought it was such a good idea. I personally thought their most recent was their weakest, but that pokemon cover is the best thing ever - I know lot of people at uni who don't even listen to metal at all and they love that track!

Steve, not to be an elitist or anything (seeing as you've got a pretty amazing taste as it stands :D), but you absolutely have to give Visions by Stratovarius some spins. Out of sheer coincidence the first album of theirs I picked up after having received Intermission as a gift from my sister. It's an amazing album.

Yea, I personally think Episode is the best album they've done yet, and Visions is right behind. Destiny would be too if Venus In The Morning and Years Go By weren't on there... yikes!

Oh I love 4000 Rainy Nights! All the songs on there are great except the two I mentioned, in my opinion.

My current favourite band is Ascension, possibly due to the new sneak peaks and such, possibly because we're mates. Still damn good.

As for Powerglove, I've listened to them since they were on myspace as well! I'm about the same with Ascension, been following them from the same time pretty much, one of the few to own their "Moongate EP".

But Days was not rubbish! All that happened was Tony went into the studio and said, "fit'll we de? mak it scream and ge dark every five min'ts in mak yi' nae be able tae listen te it? Aye, sounds good!" so it ended up just not really being Sonata, but instead Tony.

You posted a song of a band called DragonLand in the rate songs thread(simialr to dragonforce in the name haha) and I really got into that band since then. :)

yeah i really like dragonland, i wouldn't say they are my favorite power metal band, but mainly because i haven't heard very much of their music, but what i have heard i really like!

My favorite Dragonland songs are As Madness Took Me, Starfall, their version of Mozart's Rondo alla Turca, and Neverending Story.

That's great man. It's also great that by posting songs in that thread people get to know new bands and songs. :)
