horror movie hoe-down!!!

For the rest of the month, I'm doing nothing on my evenings except eating pizza and watching horror movies.

Gonna get all of the Netflix out of the way before I start going to the video store.

Last night:
INSIDIOUS - 7/10
SESSION 9 - 9/10

In the coming days:
THE THING
HOUSE OF THE DEVIL
HOUSE OF USHER
BLACK SABBATH
THE DUNWICH HORROR
THE FOG
PRINCE OF DARKNESS

^never seen any of those

Any more suggestions for Instant Queue?

Over the weekend the gf and I randomly watched Grave Encounters on streaming. If you're into found footage style movies you'll dig it. It's Blair Witch in a mental institution and it's surprisingly good.

Saw it a year or two ago, but I was high and don't remember much. Will try again.

THE THING (1983): 7.5/10
Great special effects for its time, but a bit overrated.

HOUSE OF THE DEVIL: 8/10
Yes, a bit boring, but the sense of dread is palpable. Feels exactly how such a situation probably would, sort of like sitting on a couch at Dahmer's place, The Exorcist III playing in the background, the sleeping pills beginning to kick in.

BLACK SABBATH: ?
Halfway through it. The first story was pretty damn horrifying, but the second is annoying the shit out of me, with the constant phone ringing.

Okay I need to read this thread 50 times because I don't really watch non-horror movies anymore. Netflix says I have seen the following lately:

The Wolfman (2010)
Pumpkinhead
Witchfinder General
Van Helsing :yuk:
House on Haunted Hill
The Crimson Cult
Countess Dracula :kickass:
Creepshow 2
Chillerama (my drummer is in this)
IT
High Tension
The Wicker Tree
I Spit On Your Grave
Near Dark
Dr. Giggles
The Cell
Bathory
The Craft
The Thing (2011)
The Fly (1986)

I loved all of them by varying degrees. I also watched The Thing, The Shining, The Wicker Man, and Suspiria on regular basis because I'd say all 4 are the Best. Horrormovies. Ever. to me. If I had to round out a Top 5 it would be either Repulsion or Rosemary's Baby so either way Polanski does not, in point of fact, fail it.

And a few weeks ago I watched all 9 Hellraiser movies. The first part rocks, the second is visually stunning, Part VI is okay, and the rest are absolute fucking garbage... except the ninth installment.

Hellraiser 9 is a unique piece of shit. I've flipped off greater forms of filth on the morning commute compared to this pile of unused bile. Unique in the level of suckdom, if I had a Bottom 5 horror movie list, it would definitely be there. Avoid except for the humoUr factor.

The original Hellraiser though: :kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

Prince of Darkness gets better the more you watch it. Fifth time in or so it becomes complete genius, seriously.

I need to watch In The Mouth of Madness more because The Thing is one of the greatest movies ever, and honestly Prince of Darkness is nearly as good. So yeah, need to see if the final part of that trilogy is as deserving of such respect (only watched it once, liked but didn't love it).

John Carpenter rules even if The Ward sucked. Fuckin' shitballs I even love Halloween III which is the ONLY Halloween movie worth watching for enjoyment, the others are only worthy of historical perspective. Yes yes I know, he didn't direct it, but he was involved.

the thing, the shining, and susperia rule, havent watched the old wicker man yet, just the hilariously bad nick cage version. got all the halloween sequels in dvd multipacks from the $5 bin but havent watched em yet. i have a bit of a buying compulsion problem at the $5 bin.

Prediction: you will watch The Wicker Man 5 times in a row and afterward dedicate your life to Agalloch's The White. And then (as an option) we'll start a band accordingly.

Just watched Ginger Snaps and it was bullshit that the were-bitch never showed her boobs. Hot enough to get nekkid but not hot enough to not not do a tit scene, you know what I mean?

Otherwise a perfectly 3-star enjoyable flick. There need to be more werewolf movies, Dog Soldiers is arriving soon and I've heard good things. American Werewolf in London can't be the only amazing were-thing movie, but I have yet to be proven otherwise.

I watched the Ginger Snaps trilogy a few years back (remember back when Netflix actually had a delay on movies that were either hard to find or excessively popular?). I thought the third one was pretty good.

Dog Soldiers is excellent

The Howling. Come on, bro.

I MUST SEE THIS

The Howling has amazing scenes, but I wouldn't consider it amazing as a whole.

Maybe I should watch it 40 more times.
