How did Opeth come to be singed to RR?

Comparing COF to Marilyn Manson is absolutely redundant.

Living in Ireland, I'm not familiar with the concept of the Hot Topic kid. Could some elaborate please??

This definition comes straight from UrbanDictionary:

"An annoying immature preteen, teenager or young adult who thinks its cool to shop at hot topic and does so souly for that reason. They buy band tees of bands they've never even heard of, and think that wearing wristbands with posessed cartoons on them is all there is to life. Most will eventually grow out of this horrible stage of adolescence but some never do. Sad, but very true."

RR is a pretty damn good label, great marketing.. You can buy their records almost anywhere..
The fact that most people hate the bands that are signed to RR is their own problem I guess..

I'm sure most of you don't like most bands signed to, Peaceville, maybe?

@TS, I believe there is a paragraph in the Bio dedicated to this subject..

Mike has talked about it at length. Basically, the decision was partly because he liked what RR had signed when he was younger. Besides, as he's said, believe it or not, the RR guys enjoy good music. I believe Mike has gotten some rare vinyl through them. And lastly, Mike was so thrilled to sign with them, he didn't really read the contract, and admitted it might have been something about a gay porno starring Opeth for all he knew.

I got WS SE the day it came out. The SL SE was unavailable anywhere in my vicinity on its release date. Didn't get it for weeks. I'm pretty happy with RR, actually. And mostly, so long as they stay out of the way (which it seems like they do), I really don't give a flying fuck.

Like it's happened before? Hmmmm, wonder why.....:u-huh:

Anyway, RR has been around for a looooong time. Of course they're going to have wider range of bands and musical styles. RR was around when I was in high school (and I think even before that). They definitely had their fair share of good music throughout the years. That may be a reason they are seen as "sellout" record label; years in the business. I have no problems with it. Power to Opeth for getting signed to a label that has some reputation out there in the world of music business. A key word is "business". Any and all music labels' #1 priority is profit!

Watershed was NATIONAL TOP TEN (no. 4) in Australia last week. Does that say something about why they signed to RR??? The more albums they sell...THE BETTER...

He's talking about bands on Roadrunner now, and I don't think any of those bands are on Roadrunner anymore. Roadrunner is a total joke of a label now, all they sign is hipster bullshit designed for Hot Topic kids.

His original comment could have been interpreted either way, either in the past or the present tense.

"RR is mostly made up of shitty nu-metal so yeah Im serious."

Megadeth and Suffocation aren't nu-metal bands, nor are they hipster bullshit. Not to mention that bands like Death and Mercyful Fate are still having older records produced by Roadrunner's pressing factories as RR owns the distribution rights to those respective albums.

You're uninformed. You lose.

Bands that were once signed and are still having old albums distributed doesn't say anything about Roadrunners current state. Suffocation haven't been on Roadrunner in a long ass time, you're just trying your best to make Roadrunner look like a label that isn't really anything but a trend hopping joke because Opeth is on it or something.

You lose.

people need to understand, lables dont change bands. Some lables may try to change a band, but its strickly the band that makes the final say. Roadrunner tried to jump unto the trends a few years back but i think RR is trying to rebuild their lable with some of their recent signings. Having bands like Slipknot and Nickelback on their lable helps pay the bills, but a band like Opeth gives them credibility in turn gives Opeth the exposure that Opeth needs. Since joining RR Opeth has gone to have 2 music videos played in rotation on mtv2, a top 25 album, and their album availible in almost any credible music store in the country.

yeah signing to rr was HORRIBLE.

1-They needed a label
2-RR is a legendary metal label (Death, Cynic, Sepultura, etc)
3-RR allows a better distribution around the world. So all the kiddy who are mad to not get their candy on the first day, stop crying.
4-They can make more money
5-Better tour support
