how long do you think opeth will last?

mikael will die when he is 29, like all rockstars do. (jimi hendrix, jim morrison, kurt cobain)

I don´t want to be a fucking idiot but I believe that they died at 27

Opeth is basically Mikael solo anyway nowadays. Still Day Beneath the Sun and Patterns II proved that.

Well, he's been writing the music since MAYH with the others contributing mostly in the studio. Though one song on BWP is listed as Akerfeldt/Lindgren, on the site's info. I think it's Dirge for November.

I think we'll get at least one more full album after this double-"set".

Even in a few years, when Opeth's members have scattered to the four winds, and when we're all buying their new bands' stuff, we'll think, "Damn, I'm one of the originals."

There'll be boxed sets and tribute CDs, reunion tours and made-for-TV specials.. And our kids will ask "Daddy, was was Opeth like when you were young?"

and we'll say.. "Like looking into the eyes of God" or whatever our overhyped personal opinion is.

and our children will wonder and some day discover for themselves

and I think I need a stiff drink

yes, opeth is mikael like pink floyd were roger waters.

but at the same time, pink floyd couldn't have ever been the greatest band in this world [imo], without the gilmour's guitar sound, as well as mason's and wright's instruments and way of playing. and notice that this is the same mikael says when he talks about opeth's music: he writes the 99% of the music, but the others contribute with their own style.

anyway, i am pretty sure that damnation will be an absolute masterpiece, that will disappear with music itself. i am sure it will be a real masterpiece, the best album of 2003 without knowing what will be out. i can't say opeth's best effort, because they'll countinue playing, i wish. and it seems they have a lot of things to say before disappearing.

bye

Even if these next two albums are their last (oh, the horror of that thought), Opeth will last as long as the medium they print their albums on lasts (CD's, records, tape), or as long as I can buy a replacement for any future damaged albums.

Just the thought of Opeth's ending makes me sad... I think they' ll be able to make 5 or 6 albums more. But after Opeth, in some project or band, if Mikael is involved, i'm there for sure.
