How much loyalty to any one band?

Does anyone believe it's pointless to purchase a band's entire discography, especially when they have more than three releases? Do you just go for two of the better releases, buy one to get a taste, or blindly purchase every album?

I guess it depends on whether the band changed styles much

if you're a fanboy or collector ofzo go for it I guess

Depends on how much I like the band. Sometimes if I really really love a bands sound I'll go crazy and have to have everything they've ever done. But that happens very rarely these days, being that I'm all old and jaded. :zombie:

But yeah mostly I'll get their two or three best albums.

If I like a bands later material chances are that I'll like the older stuff. If I like the band I can find qualities that will make me enjoy it.

Yeah, I agree with Satan.

I sold off alot of my excess collection a while back as you tend to run out of time in the day to listen to music.

Actually, the largest discographies in my collection are the oldest, 80's metal like Maiden, Priest, Accept etc Im more selective of everything there after - Dismember being an exception to that rule.

Two or three of the best albums generally do suffice, however some bands are so badass that you need more of their discography than that. For example, the first 4 Morbid Angel full lengths are essential, Pretty much everything up to Seventh Son Of The Seventh Son by Maiden is essential, and all of the (classic) Ozzy and Dio eras Sabbath are essential.

I try to at least listen to a bands full disco before I place all of my judgements on them. Granted this doesn't answer the initial question but generally if I enjoy half or the majority of band's releases, I usually buy it all.

If I like a band to a point, I will slowly acquire their full discography in a matter of several months. The more I like a band, the more accelerated this process becomes.

The only band I have the full discography of is Destroying Divinity, because all they've released is two full lengths. Other than that I don't have a set policy, I just buy what I want. If I like the band, that is usually what I want.

I've somehow obtained the entire Morrigan discography without really intending to. Not that I believe them to be an exceptional band (they are fucking great though), or that one album differs much from the next. It's just that... why the fuck not?

When I really like a band buy as much from them as I like from their discography. There are plently of bands I have 5,6 cds from. These bands started from the beginning and establish their band so they deserve it.

I buy albums that I enjoy. If I enjoy all of a band's albums, I wind up buying all of them. Of course, I normally try to spread out my purchases, but I've managed to obtain a couple, such as Summoning and Reverend Bizarre.
