How much loyalty to any one band?

I sometimes enjoy owning a band's entire discography even if I don't listen to all of the albums frequently. I find that the ones I never listen to serve as a good reference point for hearing the progress of the band (mostly if I'm a big fan) and to provide something new to listen to when I get sick of everything else.

Yeah, that was a pretty dumb statement. There's nothing wrong with owning an entire discography. Obviously there are bands where you won't like every single album, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get any band's full discography.

Downloads don't count.
No, but at least they're buying the song and the artist will get a tiny fraction of the total sum, maybe 20cents or something shite like that!

You dont have to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth to own a discography, you just have to go without food or toilet paper or other essential items!:p

I don't think they were talking about buying songs...
Perhaps not, I got excited thinking people were actually caring just a little about the artist, oh well, I should know better!

Now I've gone and ruined my 666 post count too, can the day get any worse.

Does anyone believe it's pointless to purchase a band's entire discography, especially when they have more than three releases? Do you just go for two of the better releases, buy one to get a taste, or blindly purchase every album?

If it is a band I like a lot, I try to get most of their work. Don't see the point of getting more than 1-2 albums for a band that are just alright. I did blind purchase some CDs just in hopes of being surprised in something good.

So people who collect CD's the way jocks collect baseball cards don't have money to burn? I was speaking of those that collect the entire discography of every band they even slightly enjoy. I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about either, and with all due repsect, your insults are completely baseless because you obviously ignored all my previous posts in this thread (in which I said owning the entire discography of exceptionally great bands is fine and dandy).

Edit:
with all due repsect
hahahaha. I give you way too much credit.

People listening and buying a bunch of albums by newer generation B rated bands is 'lame'. Discography all the way.

I don't think I own the whole discography of any band that has more than four albums. Also, most (but not all) bands really start to deteriorate in quality later on in their careers. I once had six Entombed albums, but some of them suck. I tend more to buy my favorite albums from bands, as opposed to obtaining the whole discography of one band.
