How Much You Bench?

Yeah, if you're getting paid to do it, and you have the top personal trainers/nutrition experts helping you on a daily basis, and then you do the film, win awards, get the chicks, live the life.....

...where do I sign up? :loco:

I used to lift quite a bit for football, and my bench never increased through my 4 years of lifting. It stayed at 185 pounds, and just by regular lifting it should have increased somewhat, but I think my long monkey arms had a factor in that.

After being 220 lbs and lifting a lot and now being 165 lbs and jogging a lot, I enjoy being 165 pounds and jogging. Being skinny is much better than slightly overweight and strong. I highly recommend jogging and being skinny, it's fucking ace.

I would love to be 165lb, but I'm not sure about the jogging bit.

Absiolutely, the celebs take anything they can get to enhance their productivity, especially when time is a factor. I am sure they have it prescribed though with all the money they have. And SERIOUSLY, Pitt in Fight Club is just EXTREMELY SKINNY. He probably did do something drastic to get down to that ~ 4% bodyfat, obviously...he looked like a fucking heroin junkie.

Jogging slow and outside is just fucking ace. I put on an album that I've heard many times, jog, pay attention to the music, and then 40-60 minutes later, I'm done. Easy as fuck. Granted, I had to start off slow, gradually going from one mile to 1.5 and so on. My overweight ass could barely run at mile, but the tunes is what made me able to do it. Now 6-7 mile jogs are great to relax and think about stuff.

But really, what are the sorts of things they do?

It's an extreme regimen, insane amounts of tone AND strength training for hours per day, tons and tons of cardio, and very carefully crafted diet (obviously altered to either pack on pounds or lose weight or whatever). I read about just what Tobey Macguire had to do for Spider-Man, and THAT was insane, and he's not even all buffed out like Pitt in Fight Club, or Norton in AHX.

Well I really tore it throwing a baseball, but it was apparently very damaged and weakened from repetitive use. Ive got bulging discs from football, busted up toes from baseball...anyway, its funny I guess the strictness and control of weightlifting prevents alot of injuries, whereas athletics leaves you a walking pile of injuries.

However, the incline and decline benches really hit the pecs much better than the flat bench. I've never seen anyone but powerlifters, casual lifters, and football players do the flat-bench.

I asked my histology teacher about this. He pretty much confirmed what you said, and he even mentionned to the rest of the class what my question was and answered so everyone knows how bad weight lifiting can be to tissus

Some good tips in this thread! I'd be interested to hear what Doomcifer or Zod (or anyone else who knows their stuff) have to say about this flat bench thing? And the benefit of doing incline/decline bench instead? I tend to mix it up between flat/incline bench pressing but I'll stop doing the former if it's fucking me up.

Eh, it's all about form. NEVER sacrifice form for weight....NEVER.

With that said, I would mostly do Dumbell presses, incline dumbell presses, dips, and dumbell flyes. I would obviosuly switch it up every few weeks though becuase your body gets used to things very quickly, even your diet. But the above were my staples...dumbells provide for more range of motion but like I said, FORM IS EVERYTHING.

Zod would be a good one to ask, he's pretty obsessive about his workout/eating regimen, or at least he used to be

from what I remember, incline and DECLINE bench presses are far better for actually putting on size and shape

to add to that, breathing and control are equally important, and I forget the actual name of the technique, but the lifting of the weight isn't what works the muscle the most, it's the steady, controlled bringing the weight back to your body (if you understand what I'm saying) that benefits you the most

Its called the "decline." :loco: And, yes, that's the part of the movement that actually tears your muscle fibers, so to speak.

Wow, that was quick. What classes or major are you in?

And Im just repeating the diagnosis and advice from my orthopedic surgeon, who--if his story checks out--used to play football and tore his body up like me.

Well, the education system is a bit different in Canada, but I'm in a ******** major (since it'll be censored, pharm@cy).

Hey Furious B, fwiw I would say a lot of chicks would dig you the way you are. 'Skinny' is in and has been for several years. I don't think I've met many chicks who dig the Arnold type frame (but I suppose cheerleaders get that rep.)

A lot of guys bulk up thinking they're going to look good on the beach and all of a sudden MAGICALLY pull chicks but it's a fucking myth. Muscles do not equal Confidence!!

And now you're going to tell me how you're not doing it for chicks but you're doing it for yourself. Save it. If you have a penis, everything you do is for chicks. :tickled:

hahaha, I really appreciate the kind words, but this isn't really about chicks. the whole confidence thing isn't really an issue (at all). Plus, I have a commited girlfriend at the moment.

But I do feel I could use the bulk. I've always been really skinny and I have wanted to put on some weight. I'm going to attempt this, but to be perfectly honest, if I didn't make the weight I wouldn't be too broken up with it. I actually really like who I am, so yeah.
