How old were you when you started smoking ?.

Who gives a shit? Why don't you guys stop beating a dead horse? It's not like smokers aren't already aware that there are big health risks associated with smoking, not to mention the amount of money it costs to maintain the habit. Why the fuck do people ask the question "Why do you smoke?" I would think it should be pretty obvious. The smoker made a stupid decision to start in the first place and now continues to smoke because nicotine is highly addictive. The smoker shouldn't have to defend their habit, because you shouldn't even care in the first place (with the exception of cases in which said habit interferes with your own good health).
It's annoying when people try to justify doing something with zero benefits and extreme negative drawbacks. It's even worse when they use pure bullshit arguments like our Greek friend. This is a thread about smoking on an internet forum. If you don't feel like talking about it you can not click it.

Also, smoking does affect other people, either directly through foul second hand smoke or because people care about you and you are killing yourself.

I started smoking again a few days ago really heavily after telling a girlfriend I was done a second time with them a few days ago after she checked my pockets. I luckily did not have them on me at the time. I am really trying to stop am just really stressed out.

Did you know it has been shown that tobacco smokers have half as much a risk as non-smokers to have problems with neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease? You're paying to keep your brain healthy, while harming your lungs. Also, it is a rather small percentage of tobacco smokers that die of a smoking-related disease, and those are almost unanimously very heavy smokers.

Bringing back an old argument regarding second-hand smoking, and the legality of smoking in bars: city air has just as many, usually more, carcinogenic chemicals as the air in a smoky café or bar, as well as the air within a car sitting in traffic. Also, the damaging effects of second-hand smoke are of low enough increased percentage of disease chance (19-ish%, or x1.19) to not be even considered a meaningful statistic by generally accepted scientific standard. Such statistics are routinely ignored entirely. The only reason second-hand smoking isn't is propaganda and taboo.

I would rather keep my brain pretty good and lungs perfect. Fuck smoking.

Second hand smoking does not cause cancer. Of the 2 studies ever done that say so, one was thrown out by a court for not being objective; they threw out results that didn't follow the preconceived notion that it does cause cancer, and the second one is based on the first's data.

Penn & Teller ftfw.

Even though the evidence is statistical, I believe that modern cigarettes cause cancer.

However It probably has more to do with the way they're made and the shit thats added to them than the tobacco itself.

But I thought that experiments are to be conducted without bias...

Silly me, I forgot that the earth was flat, the solar system is geocentric, all thing are made up of four elements, life spontaniously generates, the earth is 6 thousand years old, the stars are really a blanket over the earth and that demons run around making deals with people and devouring other people.

Hilarious contradiction

I don't see the relevance of this post.

I'm not regular smoker at all.

I take a smoke when I feel like it. It's mostly when I'm at parties, out on a walk with smokers or just drunk :p. My sense of judgement is close to not-existing at those moments.

But yeah. I'm a huge second hand smoker though. My mom's like a fucking chimney.

Yeah but why do you give a shit how somebody tries to justify their smoking habit? The only reason one would feel the need to attempt such a justification is because people like you won't fucking shut up about something that isn't even your business in the first place.

I already fucking know what the thread is about. Am I not allowed to come in here and criticize something that I find annoying and unreasonable? I mean, it's not like I'm not talking about smoking and I never said "Don't talk about smoking."

Also, smoking does affect other people, either directly through foul second hand smoke or because people care about you and you are killing yourself.

It's entirely possible to be a smoker without subjecting others to "foul second hand smoke", and if somebody were to have a problem with what I do to my body, well they'd just have to fucking deal with it because I have right to do to my body whatever I wish.

I only have one response. "Am I not allowed to come in here and criticize something that I find annoying and unreasonable?"
