Huge Complaint with the new Arch Enemy...

I predict this to become the longest thread on Andy's forum to date....

I think the flaming and bashing is entertaining. I don't understand why someone would bash Arch unless they are gay, or otherwise commiting faggotry. I really don't understand why someone would even ATTEMPT to bash Andy.. It's not like he wrote the shit. Yes, he has a signature sound, yes countless thousands enjoy it. Like he gives a shit if one little no-namer decided it "sucks". I commend James for coming to his buddy's defense. I would have done the same. With that said, hand me a fucking purse...I'm gonna knock the shit outta someone. haha.

That is the half-baked argument spewed forth by idiotic music journalists, who your hero (and my hero) Frank Zappa loathed with a passion.

That aside - your points are not constructive. It is a FACT that Arch Enemy are proficient musicians, in the grand scheme of things, and they deserve respect for this alone, whether or not you personally like their music. Saying that they are a "shitty band" goes beyond the realm of personal taste - it's a pointless, wrongful attack. You state this as if it is a fact, as if they somehow lack proficiency or cohesion as a musical unit.

Nobody expects you to like Arch Enemy, but give them some respect, especially in the context of this forum.
 
Well said Kazrog. The guy ain't got a leg to stand on and clearly doesn't understand what an accomplishment it is to be on the level of complexity that is Arch Enemy. It doesn't really offend me that he said what he said, it just proves to me that he is ignorant where musical ability is concerned. His comment "I'd like to think I'm at least somewhat experienced with listening to music........if not so much with making it." further reveals that. I think the people who like the music should enjoy it and talk about it. Those who don't should just not listen to it and shut up. Sure, people might say they are just "rehashing" old tunes, both their own and from other bands... but we like the old tunes and those other bands! It's metal for fucks' sake, it's not like ANYONE anymore is really "breaking ground". I hate to go here but, take country music for example... every single song is a rehash of a rehash... of a rehash.. Metal has less boundry, but it's the same principal. I know I've written several songs and riffs that you could probably directly link to some other band or riff. Ask yourself if you have? I know you have... that's how you even came to play your "original" stuff. Whether it be directly or indirectly, you have ripped of another song or riff. If you say no, you are lying to yourself.

...now flame me about the country comment. I hate country and deserve it.

Oh, and the whole "ask yourself" rant is not directed soely at Kaz, it was just a general comment. It looked like I was attacking him after I read it over... haha, sorry.
 
Thing is some of the riff-recycling is also intentional as in a throwback and what other player has more right to do that with Carcass riffs more than Mike Amott. :tickled:

For the risk of getting flamed, I don't like where Arch Enemy went after Liiva left but that made me stop listening to their music and going to their shows that's all. I do make some criticism when Arch Enemy is the matter of the discussion but I don't go around from forum to forum and spew hate about the band. Of course, whatever I do, won't change the fact that Chris and Mike are 100000x better of guitarists and musicians that I will ever be. :rock:

And the guy who said that Andy's productions all sounds the same are the most ignorant idiot ever!you should be banned from this forum for life for a remark like that.
People like Andy and James are takeing time out of their busy schedules to answer our questions and then they have to put up with remarks like the before mentioned, this is the coolest forum ever and it really pisses me off when some people(a few idiots) are trying to ruin it for everybody else.

That's not true at all. There are plenty of bands and artists in all genres breaking new ground, so I don't see why I should give anyone points for being "heavy" or "metal" or being able to play guitar really fast.....you have to earn it.

Arch Enemy's newer material is pretty mediocre at best.....if you want more description, it's bland, unoriginal, and the fact that I use these words to describe it tells me that they're not real great musicians, because great musicians don't have issues like that. I love music, and I'm telling you, this attitude of living with something because it's okay, or "metal" is what is going to destroy music, because if that's acceptable, then why should people work hard to do new things and make something that's really innovative and beautiful?

And I'm not insulting Andy Sneap, I don't have anything bad to say about him. I love Devin Townsend to death and he produces lots of crappy music too. The production is great for the style, but I'm not going to call it not crap just because Devin Townsend is producing it.

I don't know why you're making this about the production. The production on the album has nothing to do with whether the writing of the music is good or not.

I'd also like to say that I think it's atrocious that someone critiquing an album ends up deleting what they had to say about it, and it was vald and well thought out. So everyone who had something nasty to say about him expressing his opinion, fuck off. It's a forum, if there wasn't discussion and differing viewpoints, it wouldn't be a forum.

I don't see how my friend Jeremy views the new Dream Theater album has anything to do with anything he's said in this thread.

You've clearly shown in several threads on several forums that you hold very harsh views on music you deem "inferior" or "mediocre." To be blunt, you've demonstrated yourself to be a prog snob of the highest order. The irony is that you tear down bands as being inferior that many of your heroes drew influence and inspiration from.

I know you're young, so I give you the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully when you get older you'll learn to stop using music to make yourself feel intellectually superior and start actually enjoying it, and letting others enjoy it as well.

And another thing there Blumpkin, is that you have absolutely no right to say what any of these people are doing is mediocre, not officially at least, and not in a validated sense.


You know why?

Because I garauntee you, 100% that the Amott brothers will smoke you, they will go on stage every night with no anxiety, they will lay down riffs, duel leads, they will do it with confidence, and crush you. Even Angela (who I want to bang) will crush you. Even Erlandsson, will crush you.

because they are out there doing it motherfucker,

call them mediocre all you want, the bottom line is, they have something to show for it.
