I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

okay... i need some help from you gearheads. i'm selling my volvo and i get this retarded e-mail from some guy:

Do you still have the wagon availalble, and by chance do you know if that rearend is the locker version, posi type rear, both wheels spin like when in snow, need a rearend for my car and can't seem to find one in my area, will take whole car if it is the right rear-end
You can tell it posi or a locker when you jack the rear of the car up both wheels spin in the same direction, both to the front or both to the back
I live in Taunton, MA but my uncle owns a shop in New Haven, CT
There is also a tag on the rearend on the drivers side rear of the axle tube which tells you gear ratio and if it says 1041 it is the right rear end

I understand what he's asking, but I have no way of jacking up the whole rear of the car, and the bottom is so dirty/corroded that i can't find any tag. how else can i figure this out? i mean, i figure that the tires both spin the same direction seeing as how its a rear wheel drive car...1991 volvo 940 turbo wagon

isnt this is how the case was won?

Hmm...well....first of all I doubt a Volvo wagon has a locker as these are reserved for severe off-road use at like 0.5 mph and literally LOCK the half-shafts together and spin both wheels with the same amount of torque. He's probably thinking of a limited-slip differential and even with one of those, both wheels will not always spin when you have it jacked off the ground. Maybe, if you grab one wheel with your hands and stop it, the other one will start spinning. But, you'd also break both of your wrists.
That said, probably the best thing to do is look up some Volvo enthusiast sites and look for a VIN chart. There's probably a single letter or number denoting what kind of transaxle you have.

what kind of f'in advice is this?

i would just tell the guy to come check it out himself.

im reading a swedish volvo forum

940 turbos come both with and without 1041 axles so there's no real good way of knowing

it's apparently rare though

this may only apply to swedish/euro models but these are the models that definitely should have it:

940 gl se -92
940 turbo -92
940 glt 16v -91
940 turbo -91
740 gl se -92

the problems had persisted even after six trips to dealerships, two new transmissions, three new clutches and 42 days of the car in the shop
lmfao

i saw some whining about gas prices reaching $4/gallon in america

i pay the equivalent of $8.70 a gallon. hope this helps, thanx bye

Yeah, but your country is about the size of Delaware, right? We drive like motheruckers around these here parts.
That said, I agree with you....Americans whining about gas prices is rather annoying.
That said, gas prices are total bullshit...it's not a real market: it's all based on speculation.

I pay around $5.70/gallon for diesel at the moment.

Unleaded Petrol is around $5.30/gallon (this pisses me off as ULP is merely a refined fuel made from the same product as diesel, but is ofter cheaper than diesel. Clearly just a matter of oil companies making an extra quid from the transport industry).

LPG is probably $2.30 - 2.70/gallon.
