I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

so now i need to change the front shock absorbers, shit is pretty expensive

list of things that have been fixed on this car in about the last two years, aside from minor things like oil, bulbs, wipers, filters and belts:

* new clutch
* new starter engine
* new shock absorbers
* new oxygen sensor
* new rear brake lines
* new water pump
* new timing belt
* new winter tires
* new summer tires
* new rear brake pads
* new ball joint front
* new thermostat

i'm pretty sure i'm forgetting half of it. i have no idea how i can even still afford to own this car, much less buy gas for it, but somehow i manage
New ca.. Oh wait. Never mind.

EDIT: Also, fuck cars. I finally changes tires on both cars today (way overdue) though without mishaps.

i learned something new today after seeing this image of a car trashed by yesterday's tornado.
was wondering what the heck were those brown bits on the hood?!?!?

turns out the top aluminum painted piece of the hood was taken by the tornado while the "hood" was left on ... turns out most manufacturers GLUE these 2 together!

GLUE!

Yah, CTS is the only thing I can think of...although Nissan Sentra came to mind first, but I thought the car looked too big overall to be a Sentra.

i think i've decided to try feeding my car E85 (which is 15% gasoline and 85% ethanol) because there's a bunch of folks on the interweb who have had success doing it with vehicles like mine. i'm really fed up with these absolutely ridiculous gas prices

does that help much though? I've heard not-so-much because of decreased mileage and increased wear & shitz but I dunno

nope

you get a few extra horsepower (+) but the car drinks about 30% more (-) but with current prices i still end up saving about 2 kr/l. maybe more, someone claims on the internet to run exactly my car on 100% ethanol at 0,77 l/mil blandad körning which i do not believe for a second but we will see

the big minus is it's a LOT harder/impossible to start the car in temperatures under 10 degrees, although it should work better with mono-jetronic injection systems (which is what i have) since they have some sort of warm-up shitz. it seems plenty of people run old audis, citroens and volkswagens with mono-jetronic systems on 80%-100% ethanol because for technical reasons i don't really understand (something to do with a large adjustment range for lambda value) it works better than most other injection systems, and all carburetor systems, so i'm just lucky here

increased wear is mostly a myth as far as i can find, all gaskets and such that are approved for gasoline are also approved for use with ethanol. ethanol is slightly more corrosive to metal but it's absolutely negligible.

i'm going to start with 50% e85 the next time i fill 'er up and we'll see what happens

my bro in law did some sort of ethanol tank conversion on a Subaru Forester we sent to Poland last year. It's literally some additional "tank" in the back.
supposedly he gets much better mpg and it's something that can be removed pretty easily if he needs to sell the car.

are you sure the small tank is not gasoline

some folks install small tanks of gasoline just for cold starts and then run on e85

Yeah, most cars are wired for it already you just need to look up which color wires to attach. In my Honda Civic I just bought a new gauge cluster for the classier editions of the car which have a tach in the dash and just replaced the whole thing so I didn't have to bother figuring out any wiring: just plugged it right in.

interesting. that sounds like a good idea, but i looked up the process for a 2002 Focus and apparently Ford made it difficult to do something like that. maybe i could get a body shop to install it cheap or something...

is it possible to install a tachometer in a car that does not have one? like one that clips onto the dash or something

yes, this

they are usually super ugly though

they're pretty unnecessary anyways tbqfh
