I hope Opeth made some money on this tour...

They sure deserve it. I've been reading in the past how so many metal bands are broke and starving, but I was very fucking happy with the turnout at like the Chicago show, hopefully they can go back to back home with some cash.

People keep saying how metal should be kept underground, but Opeth deserves the money and recognition.

There's also a difference between becoming a band of greedy fucks who make multi-millions already and then go and change their image and sound just to make multi-millions more, as well as suing everyone left and right that they can squeeze more money out of.....and then theres being a band who play hard, work hard, sell cds, and can make at least enough money to live comfortably and not have to go and work in a record store for minimum wage when not on tour....and you'd be surprised how hard it is in this business to even make enough money to pay your basic bills, even when you sell a respectable amount of cds like Opeth has.

If Opeth can make at least a halfway decent living doing this, I say more power to them. Somehow I dont see them ever going the "Load" route hahaha.

No shit. Someone was saying on another thread that they were expecting Opeth to "sell out" any day now. But becoming popular isn't selling out - being a band like Metallica and making an album like Load, THAT'S selling out.

"There are no guys in Opeth that are assholes like the guys in Metallica." Yeah but they didn't become assholes until they became millionares, my point is that success sometimes changes people...hopefully it won't change Opeth. They seem like very sincere and humble guys, so maybe it won't.

I can't say what kind of deal they made for a tour like this, but usually bands like Opeth don't really make much money doing a tour like this one. So much of the money made goes back into tour expenses and whatnot. They likely made enough money to send back home to pay bills and stuff, perhaps a little extra, but thats about it.....
Put it to you this way, I know a band who are on a bigger label, have toured the past 15 months or so, have videos on mtv and all that rubbish, and play to lots of people at every show.....and they still dont make enough money from it to be able to live on their own or buy a decent car, because they technically still owe the label for the costs of recording, touring, etc.....
Like I said, Opeth probably make just enough money to be able to live and get by. But I don't think they are remotely close to raking in the dough....and as for success and fortune changing people, that is true that it does happen. But honestly, Opeth are pretty sincere mature guys and I dont see that happening to them...and unfortunately, I dont see the likelihood of them ever becoming that rich and famous at this. Though I think they fucking deserve to be! \m/
