Is opeth *this* mainstream?

Metal is popular in Chicago. There's got to be over a hundred In Flames fans at my school of a thousand, In Flames being the most accessible metal band. And if those guys had all heard Opeth, I'm sure they would like them.
Where do you go to school?

St. Pats? I say St. Pats because it seems like there are a few fans there.

I went to Prosser, But I am now at UIC

It seems like Opeth is approaching the really big "extreme" metal bands that reach into the metal side of the mainstream - like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, In Flames and all those bands from the boring end of Death Metal (Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under...)

The best example is a local record store that didn't get any pre-BWP stuff and took 2 months to get Still Life on demand and while I'm not sure if they got BWP they certainly had Deliverance and Damnation as soon as they were released. And they usually only have the more popular rock, hardcore and metal bands.
