If Mort Divine ruled the world

i can't think of anything more huffpost than a final sentence asking "are there not values that are more important to explore than the subject of this worthless article"

It looks like Huffpost is sympathetic to the assertion that the white ideal of "multiculturalism" is for whites only. Maybe if all these liberals stopped whitesplaining to everyone.

> Whites can't be Chinese.
> Racial minorities in the west can't be racist because they lack systemic privilege and power.

This all just seems like one long-winded and autistic double-dare for a racist white person to move to China and call them chinks and gooks and get away with it because after all, whites can't be Chinese and the Chinese system doesn't privilege white minorities so therefore it's okay and not racist to do that.

I don't understand. I thought being a minority meant the only way you could get ahead in racist, bigoted America was through Affirmative Action.

I notice that article seems to assume that all Asian Americans are Chinese. It doesn't mention how affirmative action actually provides an advantage to people of Cambodian or Laotian descent.

Man, the Lao guys at work are fucking disgusting. I came back from a job one day and they were burning the hair off a roadkill squirrel with a heat gun..

Other hits from those guys:
Taking a deer they killed with their truck back to the hotel they stay at and packing it in ice in the bathtub.
Eating dead fish out of containment pits
Eating stink bugs

thought the bigger problem is that blacks and hispanics have + biases and asians have -, rather than 'equal'. not surprised you're like "what about those mountainous laotians that live in the states!?"

Just pointing out that the article treats Asian Americans as a homogeneous group, and presents its argument in a way that suggests affirmative action puts all Asian Americans at a disadvantage. I want to make sure we all know that's not true.

Oh no how dare Asians be treated like a homogeneous group.

Also:

Fucking white people.

When have I ever said "fucking white people"? And if that's not directed at me (I don't think it is), then what's the point? Sure, this happens to white people too, but that's not a compelling argument against the point I'm making.

All I'm saying is that Chinese student are significantly disadvantaged by affirmative action. It's intellectually dishonest (to use a phrase that rms likes) to claim that affirmative action puts all Asian Americans at a disadvantage; and those who benefit from it should perhaps be taken into consideration.

For what it's worth, I'm ambivalent toward affirmative action, but I think it's helpful to pay attention to the details.

I'd be curious to see how universities differentiate between Asians and Laotians on an entry exam, anyways

Laotians are Asians, that's my point.

Que? Either universities treat Asians as a homogeneous group, which puts Laotians and Chinese at equivalent rates of discrimination discriminates against Laotians more, or they don't, which actually hurts less-academically-successful Asians like Laotians and Vietnamese even more may treat them equally.
