On my thread of thanking Aja Kim, I noticed a few people talking about ballads. I guess that I should ask, what ballads really hit your soul?

Mine would be.... Paul Dianno: The Living Dead, Wasp: The Idol and Forever Free, Bruce Dickinson: Man of Sorrows and Tears of the Dragon, King Diamond: So Sad, Judas Priest: Dreamer Deceiver and Angel, and Manowar: Master Of The Wind.

Those are my favorites...... There are many more but these stick out the most.

Have you got a week or so whilst I list them?? Ok, I'll try and do just a few...

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters, Mama Said, Low Man's Lyric
Iron Maiden - Prodigal Son
Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde, I'll Be There
Motley Crue - Rodeo
Bon Jovi - Always, Something To Believe In, Bed Of Roses, Thank You For Loving Me, You Had Me From Hello
Poison - Life Goes On, I Won't Forget You, Something To Believe In, Theatre Of My Soul
Eagles - Hollywood Waltz, After The Thrill Is Gone, Desperado, Doolin Dalton

Deep Purple - Wasted Sunsets
Iron Maiden - Strange World
Rush - Tears

Damn how could I forget those. Rainbow had quite a few "ballad" instrumentals. Not really a ballad but Losing It by Rush is fantastic as well.

Fuck yes they are! Yoshiki is a mad drummer!

If Art of Life counts as a ballad then that is the ballad of all ballads! 26 minutes of pure epic bliss! :kickass:

That's awesome dude! You'd probably like Hide a lot, he's a really good guitarist with a really adaptable style.

I don't know how I forgot this before but Don't Stop Believin' by Journey!

Here you go, Yosmark! (Yoshiki) This is part one of 4 parts of "Art of Life" by X Japan for you to sample! :) Enjoy! :kickass: It's wild how the singer sounds like Steve Perry!

this is un-fucking-believable.... he DOES sound like Steve Perry!!! This is crazy.... I just can't get over the sheer magnitude of this song....
I think he sounds better. :p

And that song was so epic they only played it twice live. They're supposed to be making a comeback soon and it's like this huge deal in Japan to find out who their next guitarist will be since Hide is no longer with us.

This one is my favorite: Endless Rain - X Japan

Motley Crue - Home sweet home.

Oh bollocks, how could I forget that one!!!

Some people have a completely different idea on what a ballad is I've found. I know alot of people consider songs like Fade To Black and November Rain as ballads but because they get heavier and/or faster halfway through the song, I don't consider them "real" ballads.

i was just considering this.... there's alot of blues tunes i like but i wasn't sure if they fit in that catagory. the dictionary said basically if it's a narrative poem and also of romantic or sentimental value then it's a ballad. so would you consider fade to black a ballad? i would say it's sentimental and narrative - and it's got a killer solo \m/
