IN FLAMES new album being released by the end of 2016

Yeah people seem to forget they were bored and tired of doing the guitar harmonies, Fredrik had to convince them even back in Whoracle that they had an obligation to their fans to do it. Thankfully they agreed with him back then.

Any song in particular?

There was one, can't remember which one now... but there are some melodies that are audible but hammered by the rhythm guitar above them. You get a bit of it in Like Sand starting at 00:38, the guitar melody is there but on older albums it would have been higher in the mix, rather than sharing space with the chugging rhythm guitar.

Any thoughts on what material current IF are capable of creating would sound like?

We always talk about it but never go in depth...

I've said it before, but for me I would have liked them to expand and explore the sound they had on SOAPF. To go in the direction they did with Siren Charms was pretty sickening, and although Battles has corrected some of those mistakes, it's still a far cry from the creativity, passion and conviction that exploded from SOAPF.

Now, for the next album... What style will that be? (Yeah I'm onto that already as the new material isn't complex[or hateable] enough to continue on conversation with hehehehe)

Siren Charms was easy listening

Battles is Hard/Alt Rock with more screams than average

What next???

More mainstream in the vain of The Truth, Like Sand and Save Me. Screams completely omitted. In Flames will become an entirely alt-rock/hard rock band, imo. That's where Anders and Bjorn's musical interests lie, and as the main decision makers in the band it's a matter of time until their albums are no longer metal at all. It's genuinely arguable that Battles has already done that.

If somebody feels like their sodium levels are too low go get some fresh salt from this yearly "wtf happened to In flames"-thread in metal subreddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/Metal/comments/5cer2x/what_has_happened_to_in_flames/

:D brutal. And people think me and A88 are bad. These fuckers hearts are dark with hatred.

"They became the melodeath Metallica" - this one I liked :D

Anyway, it's down in the comment chain, but I'm glad there are other sane people who realize IF did not do a 180 with Battles, nor with SC nor with ASOP, but it was R2R they completely embraced their new identity.

There is no "okay, THIS TIME they really have to change names!!" record out there, CC or STYE were just as distant from TJR/Whoracle as Battles or SC, the only exception is that you (or we) like the former more for various reasons.

STYE was where they gave the middle finger to their older fanbase and pretty much said "we're done with melodeath, at this point you're either with us or against us."

Reroute caused anxiety as it had a lot of american metal influences, but STYE was the statement of intent everybody had been dreading.

Not sure if the backlash from that led to the weirdly backwards-looking Come Clarity, but that oddity aside, the band has continued making their sound softer and increasingly accessible post-STYE.

Just the solo from sleepless again is far better than anything on this album.

You've got a trade off between the albums. Instrumentally ASOP is far superior to Battles, but vocally Battles is much better. Vocals on ASOP are some of the worst I've ever heard. Lyrics on both albums are pretty pathetic, but Battles slightly better imo. No "I feel like shit, but at least I feel something" or "Please heal me, I can't sleep, thought I was unbreakable but this is killing me" lines.

I'm appreciating In My Room a little more recently. I mean, terrible song title and some of the lyrics make me want to facepalm, but there are some nice, groovy riffs in the song and the solo is actually not too bad. A lot less wankery than we've become used to from Bjorn.

Now there's a proper song name - Hearts dark with hatred. :) No broken hearts, sleepless nights and sad dudes locked in their rooms.

Yes sir, DE and I sound like a bunch of n'flamez fangirls compared to those guys.

When we eventually band together to form our Melodic Death Metal Supergroup, Hearts Dark with Hatred would be a great album title  one of the songs can be titled "In Flames", and the lyrics will solely consist of lines written by the darkest of us on this forum over the years :heh:

(Anders) In Flames? :)

Plus, instrumental piece with 17 minutes of harmonized guitar called No Wah or else...

There's something off with the snare drum on Here Until Forever verse.

That said it's probably most technical drumming in an In Flames album in a while. (so many ins)

We could probably convince Jesper to do some guest melodies. Just hide the booze and request less The Resistance, more The Jester Race.

Guest melodies and random drunken anti-IF rant for the cover. :)

Then, we hire Jester Slave as a (looooooong) lyrics writer, Krofius as PR manager, Yagami as producer and "10/10 buy this album now" reviews, Eochaid for guest Spannish guitar and summer tour hosting and so on... there is place for everyone and sucess is a sure thing.

Lastly, we hire IF as an opening act and cut their set short so they can't play TCP!

Yeah, or give them 50 minutes but only under the stipulation that they play no songs from ASOP or SC, and Bottled isn't allowed either. Also at least 50% of the set must be dedicated to 1994-2000 albums.

Bang. Done deal. Let's rock.

And, Stand Ablaze encore!

Ok, let's rock!

But, there's just one problem bro... We're lazy, you can't possibly play all that guitar layers live AND crowd just won't move without autotune chorus. Also, I'm evolving and having some inner battles.

Nah, let's cancel the whole thing and drink beer.

OK. I'll bring the PS1 and Tekken 3.

My copy of Battles still didn't come in yet, but Atoma finally did and the credits say that Bjorn Gelotte did the solo on Force of Hand.

Man, listening back to it... yeah. There's a shitload of wah there, so that totally makes sense :D a guest solo from Bjorn, but no guest vocals from Anders? Shocking.

But it doesn't sound out of place or anything, it fits. And you didn't notice it at first, lol. Anders gets no love. But imagine if they did a song similar to Weather the Storm from Insomnium. That'd be cool.

Yeah, it fits well enough. We all know Bjorn is capable of laying down a decent solo even with if he's abusing the wah pedal, he proved that plenty of times on Come Clarity and SOAPF. The solos are just overkill on SC and Battles, and too predictable.

Weather the Storm is a great song, but Stanne's vocals in that track just remind me how mediocre I've always found Sevanen's vocals. Will probably offend a few people here by saying that, but hey :D nothing new there.

Imagine if Stanne was still IF singer. :)

Imagine Stanne with Anders haircut blasting The Truth on stage.
