Hey, can anyone recommend a good depressive album? I know this kinda mirrors the "Depressing Song thread, but I['m looking for a whole album of stuff that'll make me wanna kill myself:p. I'm thinking somehting by Anathema, My Dying Bride, or Sentenced, bands I never really got into, but I've heard nothing but good things about. But any other suggestions are welcome.

definatly go for type o negative. i would reccomend the album world coming down. you cant get lyrics more depressed than "everyone i love is dead" as the chorus
~gR~

Stabbing Westward. Jeebus on a stick, is that stuff depressing.

I'd suggest Dashboard Confessional too..or Thursday..but the whiney vocals can become very annoying at times. Especially with Dashboard.

I have the Yearning album and I don't find it that great. I listened to it a couple of times and then threw it on the shelf. It didn't really catch me. If I listen to it some more, maybe it will or maybe it won't!
I can also clearly recommend Type O. "World coming down" or "Bloody Kisses" are probably the most depressing, although "October rust" is my favorite by them.
If beatiful is allowed, I can most definetly recommend Marvin Gaye's "What's going on". A superb album, with beatiful songs and Marvin's incrediblely beatiful voice! This isn't metal, but if you're into other stuff than just fast banging try this out! "Mercy mercy me" & the title track are both fantastic songs (and it's very, very rare that I use that phrase!)!!!!

THE QUINTESSENTIAL depressing doom album would be The Silent Enigma by Anathema.

"YOU'RE DOOMED TO MISERY!!!! RESTLESS OBLIVION FOREVER!!!"

Restless Oblivion, great fucking song. Fun to play on guitar too.

EXCELLENT recommendation! I would also add:
Katatonia - Tonight's Decision
Saturnus - Martyre
November's Doom - To Welcome the Fade (esp. the first song - "Not the Strong")
...and a second recommendation as well for Shape of Despair's "Angels of Distress"

The Cure - Pornography
The Cure - Disintegration

Hell, any early The Cure album should do.

Other than that:

Rapture - Songs For The Withering
Katatonia - pre and including Brave Murder Day
Thergothon - Stream From The Heavens

OOOOHHHHHHH HOW I LOOOOVVVEE JUDGEMENT BY ANATHEMA!!!!

My favorite album by them BY FAR.

Not really that depressing, but there is one song on there that made me weep....never happened before until I heard this song. And it wasn't one of those gay, I-can-relate-because-I've-been-there kind of songs, you could just feel his pain. The song is called "One Last Goodbye", and the solo at the end is heartbreaking. I can play it on my guitar and it wretches every bit of feeling out of you.
