okay, so i have myself a nasty virus/spyware. it hit my computer while i was ripping a dvd and searching for ipod games. i was looking through an ipod game site and i had a security pop up that asked if i wanted to continue. i thought it meant to continue ripping the dvd so i said yes. well, i was wrong. out of no where, this antivirus xp 2008 popped up and did a scan. it said i had over 2000 virus'. i was quite surprised and did a virus scan with a different program... it said the virus was the antivirus xp 2008. so i went to delete the program and it would not let me and now it's fucking up my computer. i've been trying everything but i can't delete the program. any advice?

Just get AVG, I've had it for half a year now, not a single virus got through. Also, it automatically scans and updates almost every day, which is lovely when you're a lazy fuck who doesn't feel like doing it yourself all the time.

Same as me, used it for some years now, never got a virus.

Try going on safe mode and deleting it on thare.
Of course it won't work at least with windows XP and 2k.

You first need to turn of the Automated System Recovery (ASR) function (i can't tell you how to do it because I don't know the english words for windows things-so google it).

Download hijackthis, do a scan and the online logfile check. look at the critical items. remember them but don't fix them- it won't solve the problem.

Start windows in the safe mode (after you have deactivated the ASR) fix the critical entries. Start in normal windows run things like Spybot Search and Destroy and Regseeker. Delete everything critical. Turn on the ASR.
Be happy.

If it's a backdoor trojan - have fun with the aids ;). You never will get rid of a backdoor if it has worked long enough on your computer. Or maybe you will get rid of the backdoor itself but not of the things he opened the door.

Doesn't matter what shitty program he did use. He gave the virus a window by clicking on something. That's what happens...AVG would not have stopped it. And FYI AVG sucks pretty badly...:erk: Ive had it and many i know have had it. Once they got a decent Antivirus they discovered that their computers were spiked with viruses...AVG just didn't notice them. Some Spybots and viruses you can spot by the computer turning REALLY slow though...but like trackers and such can be totally undetectable.

Well all I can say, is that I had to re-install Windows on my laptop every 2 months or so because of all the viruses, untill I got AVG. Guess it does work, eh?:p
I've tried many anti-spyware/anti-virus programmes, and none of them really worked, for example Norton.. shittiest programme ever.
And Spydoctor doesn't even remove the spyware:S
