My metallic influences (besides Maiden) are as follows:

Currently: Static-X, Disturbed, System etc.

drawing a blank...plus female ROCK peeps like:
Ann and Nancy Wilson
Lita Ford and Joan Jett
Tori Amos

and classical music like CHOPIN, Mozart and BRAHMS among others....

Did I mention I like to listen to and sing show tunes too.

In addition to the absolute classics, like Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, etc., I like everything from 80's thrashy stuff like Metallica, Megadeth, Overkill, Slayer, Testament, Flotsam & Jetsam, etc., plus newer melodic metal bands with lots of energy like PRIMAL FEAR!!!!, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Sinergy, and anything that ROCKS!!

I also have a soft spot for Oldies, Classic Rock, and Duran Duran.:D

Is this post just for the ladies, or is it open invitation to all?

actually it was just for the ladies....but it dosn't matter! LOL :)
write as you feel like

Okay...you asked for it.

In so far as Metal goes, most of the genres are represented.
Includes:
Kiss
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden (duh!)
Judas Priest (w/Halford only. Sorry, but with the addition of Ripper, it just seems like Judas Priest is now a tribute band of themselves. My opinion, only. Yours may differ.)
Slayer
Twisted Sister (yes, I still listen to them)
Metallica
Venom
Raven
Dark Angel
Kreator
Cradle of Filth
Dimmu Borgir
Borknagar
Emperor
Ozzy (I refuse to see the man sing again. It's too sad.)
Neurosis
Nile
Danzig
Prong
...and many others. (Yes, this post is getting too long.)

In so far as non-Metal...

Einsturzende Neubauten
Throbbing Gristle
Non
Diamanda Galas
PJ Harvey
Neil Diamond
Mozart
Wagner
Al Jolson
Sammy Davis Jr.
Britney Spears
Public Enemy (I was listening to them LONG before Anthrax got together with them for Bring The Noise)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
No Doubt
Kodo
Jaco Pastorius (quite possibly my favorite bass player, :saint: besides me)

...I think this list is getting too long, too. :)

Arghhh- where do I start?
Testament, Dokken, Kiss, Megadeth are responsible for my playing guitar :worship: (Alex, George, Marty rule!!)
King Diamond, Pantera, Racer X, Whitesnake, Yngwie, Ratt, Sepultura, Fight, Metallica, blah blah blah.
Queen, Brian McKnight, Duran Duran, Savage Garden (did I just publicly admit that?), Jeff Buckley, James Brown, Tower of Power, Sade, George Benson, Norman Brown, Coltrane, Mehldau.
Chevelle, 311, Incubus, KoRn, Disturbed, Godsmack, A Perfect Circle, Zombie.
Daily fix: Tool, NIN, Prodigy, Deftones, Filter, The Crystal Method.

I know I am missing a bunch here. I can't get my brain to work.

Yes, I think you did. Hey, if I can admit to liking Britney Spears...why not? You should see one of my basses. It's covered in Britney stickers! :)

Would jumper cables help? :saint:

I find it hard to hate any music. For me, music's cup is half full and always interesting. I listen to everything....Sometimes I'll stop on the Persian channel- have you ever seen their music videos? How do they get their voices to do that?!!! I was watching Little Saigon t.v. the other night- that was heavy pop. ;) There was some cool samples in the tracks tho- fat analog samples can make my ear come.

OK I'll stop here ;) There are some things outside metal of course, but this list is long enough!

By the way, I saw Accept mentionned on that thread. That's a band I still don't know well. Any advice for a first album to buy? Thanks!

If you can find it, there's a live album that Accept put out that was taped back in 1985. I think it's still out, but I could be mistaken. Check CDNow.com or do a websearch. :)
