Is "Outcry" from new DT album "inspired" by a Seventh Wonder song?

I really like the new Dream Theater album, but something struck me at first listen. In the song Outcry there are parts that I am pretty sure is almost exactly like something in a Seventh Wonder song, but I haven't figured out which song.
It's driving me mad I'll tell ya! :)
Does anyone want to help me?
Try listening to the part from 0:45-1:30, this is where its best heard (especially the melody of the synth), and see If you recognize anything.

Thanks
Fredrik

No, I don't recognise it. If it reminds you of something then maybe it does have similarities to something, but even if so I highly doubt it was inspired by a Seventh Wonder song. DT and Seventh Wonder play similar kinds of music, and Seventh Wonder were inspired by DT (and Mercy Falls is similar to SFAM in a lot of ways - conceptually, generally (which is to be expected since it's similar type of music) and even specifically at some moments).

Having said that, the heavy verse of Breaking All Illusions (vocals starting at 3:55) reminded me slightly of The Great Escape, The Age Of Despair: Lust. But there's really only a slight similarity, just enough to remind me of it (probably doesn't help that I had listened to TGE earlier that day and have listened to it literally hundreds of time (OK, maybe just hundred-and-something times)). When you listen to things that much even a handful of similar notes, rhythms or sounds can remind you of them.

First of all: welcome to the forum, floftheim  !

Second: I'm sorry, but I don't recognize it either.

Third: I'm still disappointed in DT regarding the structure of 'Outcry': what were they aiming for between 4:50 and 8:55...? That part must be the worst piece of music they have ever recorded (together with the part in 'Lost Not Forgotten' between 2:00 and 2:30, by the way) :yuk: !
The first part (up to 4:50) is so beautiful - great intro, fantastic symphonic keyboardparts, good riffs, good vocal melodies and a very good chorus as well. IMO, they ruined a potentially fantastic song with that 'wank-fest'!

Damn! I really want to find out what the melody of this part of the song is similar to. On first listen i knew what came next in the melody for 45 seconds. Could it not be Seventh Wonder but maybe Pagans Mind? This is driving me crazy(er) :)

I agree with DT having messed up Outcry by adding too much weird playing in the second half of the song. Why do they do this? This was probable why i struggled for years to really get into prog-metal.

I felt that way about the instrumental on first listen as well, was pretty disappointed after enjoying the song so much that they then spent most of it away in crazy instrumental land... I do appreciate the instrumental now though and even though I might prefer the song with more of the vocal parts I still think it's amazing (listening to it right now actually). I generally find that it just takes a few more listens to appreciate the instrumental sections in songs like this, although I guess if people don't like DT in general then maybe they just never come to appreciate them even after listening :p

Hi. I don't know Seventh Wonder at all (except that) Tommy sang with Kamelot on a few songs and he was fantastic. But I was meaning to check them out, so I Googled them and found "Alley Cat". And immediately I went, "This is it. This song has so many parts that remind me of Outcry".

The structure of the initial part is very similar. The chorus itself has a similar "feel" to it (palm muting, fast progressions). The the fast guitars are similar. Actually, some parts remind me of "Lost Not Forgotten". Good music, both bands!

In any case, I'll have to check out more of Seventh Wonder :)

I think the intro riff kinda sounds like the edge of my blade. It's not particulary similar, but it gives me the same vibe.
