Is Summoning the best, still active metal band?

Certainly enjoyable, but Scourge, the OP, Hibernal, etc. are overdoing it. It's not THAT fucking good.

It doesn't need to be "THAT fucking good" to be the best active metal band - it simply has no competition. Releasing what was probably the best metal album of the 21st century last year was enough.

Hard for me to take it seriously with the programmed drums. They have some pretty cool parts, but I can't fathom calling them the best active metal band.

Seriously though, quit with the cheesey Tolkein worship. Every other black metal band makes some reference to Tolkien, show some originality and pick another book ffs!

Considering the extreme lack of worthwhile fantasy books in existence, I'd say they made a pretty good choice.

But yeah, I'd say that The Chasm are the only ones surpassing them, but only by the skin of their teeth.

They're really good at what they do, but I can't help but think that metal is secondary to their sound. Take out the distorted guitar, and it would still be reconizable as Summoning, but I don't think anyone would call it metal.

You might as well call Possessed 'unoriginal' because 10,000 bands played death metal after them.

Try logic sometime, you might find it to your liking.

I could write a list of metal bands, from all sort of metal sub genres, that are better than Summoning.

I agree with the general consensus - Summoning are good.. But not at all the best active metal band.
