Ok I have had this on my mind for months but have kept quiet about it. It seems that alot of fans of Opeth are also fans of Tool. I used to go into Tool's chatroom and whenever I would ask about everyones opinions on Opeth I would get flamed so hard for it. Tool promotes peace and all that happy horse shit but the majority of their fans aresome of the most closed miinded individuals I have ever encountered. Anyone ever had this problem?

Had the problem with just about every musical genre or band good enough to have a chatroom or forum, because everyone who has fans also has a few fanboys. Tool's my favorite band though so..you tell me, am I close-minded?

Every Opeth fans are close-minded too. Fuck Tool. Fuck Tool fans. Fuck the world. Hail to our mighty Opeth. But really, Tool are great but I didn't experiment the behavior of their fans. That's wierd, indeed, and sad too... and ironic heh. You should show us some conversation if you ever get the chance to meet them again, aight?

Ya of the three I'd say Dream Theater fans seem the worst. But maybe that's because I'm not that crazy about DT themselves and I can't relate to their fanboyness like I can here.

Chat rooms as a general rule tend to be a waste of space. Forums generally tend to be much better as they are significantly less instantly gratifying thus weeding out many of the morons before they even get here.

For similar reasons I've simply started ignoring the metal "scene" and most people in it as it's nothing but an attention whoring mechanism most of the time. Metalheads as a general rule are incredibly moronic. But so are rap fans, and so are pop-people, etc. Most people who get involved in a culture based around a genre of music tend to need some type of social reassurance that it's okay to like that music, or pretend to like the music to fit into said culture.

Certain people and forums can definitely be cool though...those that focus more on the music and sharing/discussing new music can be great, but far too often everything just ends up in a giant pissing match over who's band is better, or who can namedrop the most obscure black metal bands...

^^ Haha true.
^ Well it depends. Maybe you never met any nice people who metalheads, but I have. It's only people. No matter if they are into metal, rap, classic etc. some are true assholes and some are just incredibly nice. General rule... no! And even those who are open-minded and get involved in a culture based around a lot of things can get annoying.

Why don't you just say humanity in general is stupid. That would be much more accurate.

I had this problem when I visited the Jonas Brothers forum, for some strange reason.

Oh and I just remembered, there are plenty of Opeth fanboys that still believe that Opeth is completely full of free form jazz so uh...yea, certain proof that all successful bands have a decent idiot following.
