It's still October but fuck it, what are your top albums of 2005?

Really? I understand TGE, but i thought the new arch enemy was incredibly dull apart from a few tracks? Anyone else feel like that?

Shovel headed kill machine is awesome, but not as good as tempo (i think).

I should buy more albums so if someone could recommend two ABSOLUTE must buys and kinda why...i'd fucking appreciate it. (I most metal except gothic and black, i like bands like nevermore, the haunted, jag panzer etc)

cheers

my top albums: nevermore - TGE
bruce dickinson - tyranny of souls
Maiden - death on the road (i know its a live album, but its awesome)
exodus - shovel headed kill machine
i really enjoyed nagflar and nile albums (think they were out this yr, sorry if not)

1. Nevermore - This Godless Endeavour
2. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
3. Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution
4. Strapping Young Lad - Alien
5. God Forbid - IV: Constitution of Treason
6. Napalm Death - The Code is Red... Long Live the Code
7. Bruce Dickinson - Tyranny of Souls
8. Dark Tranquility - Character
9. Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
10. Sentenced - The Funeral Album

Other notables include Obituary (first runner up so far!), Municipal Waste, Black Dahlia Murder, As I Lay Dying, Hate Eternal, Demons & Wizards...
Biggest disappointment was COB, and I'm not even a fan (could listen to their stuff previously, though... the new stuff is just woeful).
Okay but not quite up to scratch cds include new Arch Enemy, new Dream Theater (actually new Sentenced probably fits that category even though it's in my top 10 - normally they'd be right up the top). Didn't even bother with the new Soilwork.
Best non Metal album was Cog - The New Normal and worst album so far is Adema - Planets along with other shite like dark new day, static-X and soulfly that I get sent to review (shudder).

But there's still a couple of months to go (and I need to get the new Candlemass, still)...

Yeah but Edguy actually managed to sound good... Lavatory Love Machine is one of the greatest hard rock song ever!!! ...But Helloween failed miserably ... STAY HEAVY DMMIT!!!

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor

So far... (no particular order)

Confessor "Sour Times" EP
Blood Ritual "Black Grimoire"
Drudkh "Lebedynyy Shlyakh: The Swan Road"
Hate Forest "Sorrow"
Nevermore "This Godless Endeavor"
Cryptopsy "Once Was Not"

The munchkin speaks much truth!! 2,3,4,5 and 7 on this list all are top tier!! I'd only have to add Primordial-The Gathering Wilderness and Lurker of Chalice!!:headbang:

Haha.

My list is sooo tiny....

Nevermore- TGE
Opeth- Ghost Reveries

They're really the only one's i've bought this year that i have loved to death.
I did buy the new Bruce .D and wasn't super impressed with it. I'm also a poor student and don't buy a lot of cd's hehehe.

I'm not sure...I just found that as a whole cd it came up short. I like some of the songs but others were just mediocre at best. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it or anything. But I would choose Chemical Wedding over it any day.
I had the same problem with Dance of Death...A few songs were good but over all I found it to be lacking something.
All this aside, I still love Maiden and Bruce D's solo work.

What I'm trying to say, is when you hold it up to TGE or the new Opeth, I don't think it stands a chance. For me, both of those disks kick your ass the whole way through.
Just my humble opinion. I'm not a musician so it's kinda hard to explain what I mean..

opeth - ghost reveries
nevermore - this godless endeavor
sigur ros - takk
uaral - sounds of pain
pelican - australasia
dredg - catch without arms
blood red throne - altered genesis
kreator - enemy of god
dark tranquillity - character
aborted - archaic abattoir

the new evoken, porcupine tree, nile, ulver, obituary and lost soul are runners up.
the new dickinson is allright, darkane is ok, Vile improved...
Disappointed in new cryptopsy a little, as well as the new dream theater, haunted, soilwork, nightrage, mors principium est, arch enemy, taake, candlemass, judas priest, beheaded etc

This year was great scenewise...alot of great us tours and support, but alot of bands lost their credibility with me in continously making great shit...but that's fine, you can only be so good for so long...I know my band will eventually stink(years after it finally takes off), hehe.

TGE is the best album ever, period. Ghost Reveries is another good one and Soilworks new one is in constant rotation in my truck. It's hard for me not to say more since I sort of discovered metal this year, but those are the best three.

I think if "this godless endeavor" was released in 97(98?) and Politics of Ecstasy was released this year, with "This godless endeavor" production, as the new album. People would be saying "ooommmmggg this is the best album ever! ever!" or any other nevermore album for that matter.

Akercocke - Words that go Unspoken, Deeds that go Undone (when it comes out ... heh heh)
Nevermore - TGE
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Blood Red Fuckin' Throne - Altered Genesis
Demons and Wizards - Crimson King
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked

Most everyone's mentioned all the great albums I own this year except the following:

Neuraxis-Trilateral Progression
Symphorce-Godspeed
Darkane-Layers Of Lies
Byzantine-And They Shall Take Up Serpents
Mercenary-11 Dreams
The Red Chord-Clients
