1. NEVERMORE - TGE
(A DISTANT 1st)
2. Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine

4. Overkill - RelixIV
5. Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama (killed their last release, but nothing
compared to their other cds.)

Nothing else metal really got me excited in 2005.

B'z - The Circle
Fear Factory - Trangression

They're really the only one's i've bought this year that i have loved to death.
I did buy the new Bruce .D and wasn't super impressed with it. I'm also a poor student and don't buy a lot of cd's hehehe.

Ack. It's weird. I quite like a few songs on there, but overall I think I'm even more disappointed with Octavarium than I was with FII when it came out. And that album ended DT's couple-of-year-long stint as my favourite band.

Panic Attack still gets me every time, Root of All Evil's okay and the title track I throw on occasionally. So many faceless songs on there, though, such a contrast to the last album (which was their third best to my mind and is still very fresh in my mind... maybe one of the reasons I was underwhelmed by Octavarium).

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
Candlemass - Candlemass
Paradise Lost - Paradise Lost
Arcturus - Sideshow Symphonies
Ulver - Blood Inside
Solefald - Red For Fire
Hypocrisy - Virus
Ram-Zet - Intra

Yes, DT "Octavarium" has some killer moments (Panic Attack and title track is 24 min's of killer old and new prog), it's too middle-of-the-road. DT's appeal (at least to me) was that they were so "above the competition" and innovative. "Octavarium" is not that over-the-top, nor innovative. I love to listen to Panic Attack, but that's typical DT. They suck me in by experimenting and going out on a limb, essentially amazing the listener. I like it when they go off on their "songs within a song" as a group and smoke the listener. I want them to do things I can't on an instrument. "Oct" did not do this. ...and MP on drums is a monster.
...sorry, got off topic. Just glad to see some DT admirers on the NM board...but NM is still king.
