That's a nice wooden finish. I've always liked that simpler look to the point where I even prefer it without the varnish. (A little like Nuno Bettencourt's old Washburn series).

By the way, I find myself somewhat aroused (in a beastial manner) staring at the protruding veins in your forearms. I can also see that you're playing the Em at the 7th fret which can only mean that you're playing some old Metallica, probably something from Ride the Lighting.

I'm pretty sure no self-respecting guitarist would use the word varnish when describing a guitar's finish.

A guitar showing the wood, so to speak, would actually have a high gloss finish or a tung oil finish. The tung oil finish would seem like there isn't even any "varnish" on it. I'm sure you could make one without the tung oil even, but the wood would fall apart afer a few years.

Go to www.carvin.com and look at some of the awesome all-wood finishes they can make for you. Walnut, Koa, Mohogany, Alder, etc.
