I've never heard an Opeth song. What's a good one to start me off?

Just as the topic says :) I'd love to love new bands.

I like Ayreon, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Angra, Tool, just to name a few if that helps narrow down.

Hopefully I'll like it enough to get the cd and become a fan :D

Thanks!

oh boy.

you're gonna get lots of responses, i'd say get....

The Moor... simply because it was voted to be the best Opeth song and since i can't pick the best, i'll go with the majority.

I'll split it up.

=Death Metal:
-Blackwater Park (it was the first DM song I ever liked, if A Fire In Babylon by Shadows Fall doesn't count)
-The Drapery Falls
-Bleak
-Black Rose Immortal (some say its boring, but if you like Dt you probably like long songs)

=Soft/Progressive:
-Benighted
-Windowpane (First Opeth song I came to love)
-Death Wispered a Lullaby (First Opeth song I liked)
-To Bid You Farewell (My favorite song of all time)
-The Face of Melinda
-Hope Leaves

That is okay for now.

demon of the Fall ... the "older Opeth".

Deliverance or Masters apprentices ... the "newer Opeth".

In my time of need and closure as the new mellow, and to bid you farewell as the older mellow.

'The Twilight is my Robe' is "older Opeth" :D

Blackwater Park and Still Life are good starting albums. 'The Moor' and 'Benighted' are both great songs.
