Copyright comes into existence as soon as something is created.

Not in a court of law, you need proof of copyright.

Registering songs with the Library of Congress puts your claim of authorship on the public record and may help if ever there is a dispute over credit or timing.

Yeah, I am just saying that if one of the bands did copyright their stuff this would be an open & shut case. No looking through and verifying time stamps on masters etc. It's exactly why I copyright everything.

Some people still send themselves sealed letters with original prints of their tabs, but you don't actually need to. Otherwise you could "troll patent" any song or artistic creation that is not registered yet.
