Kamelot/Halcyon Way/EbS Rollcall!

I attended both Kamelot's Florida concerts in St Petersburg and Ft Lauderdale. Their first concert was a bit meh due to bad sound at St Petersburg's State Theater IMO, and Roy's voice definitely was off. The next night, last night in Ft Laud at Culture Room, they brought the house down with a near perfect performance.

Set list for you guys:

01. Rule The World
02. When The Lights Are Down
03. Soul Society
04. The Pendulous Fall
05. Center Of The Universe
06. Abandoned
07. Edge Of Paradise
08. Instrumental
09. The Human Stain
10. The Haunting ( Somewhere In Time )
11. EdenEcho
12. Keyboard Solo
13. Forever
-------------------------------------
14. Ghost Opera
15. Love You To Death
16. Karma
-------------------------------------
17. March Of Mephisto

"March of Mephisto" is last, huh?

Someone drop by the Tabernacle and drag Shagrath over to the Masquerade in time for that.

I'm feeling lousy today*, so I'm gonna pop a pill or two and see if I feel better. Really want to make at least one of these shows tonight. :(

* a midnight-to-4am stint on the air at WREK probably didn't help, here....

I decided to skip this and I had to work anyways...I thought about going after work but it was 9 when I got off and it Kamelot's set would be almost over by the time I got to Atlanta

I regret not going but I was kinda burned out from so many shows recently.....I hope they come back soon

Post reviews/Pics

Great show, just got home. Going to bed. Enjoyed all three bands. Very energetic show from everyone involved...class acts all three on the stage. Good night, friends.

The show was the worst concert experience I have ever had, all thanks to the dumbass staff. We got there at 5pm to get a good spot and to our surprise found that getting there at 7pm actually would have gotten us on the rail. Right at 7 they cut the line in half and moved those people up into a second line with all of us who waited forever. I figured maybe they were gonna put our line in then start on that line, but nah, it was a free for all when the doors opened (20 min late). So we get a bunch of people in front os us that had gotten there way after us, not that big a deal, whatever...THEN those stupid assholes moved us into a holding room as they weren't ready to let us in, insisting we keep moving to the back so people coming in could fit. Once they packed the room out the just let people stand in the entrance, so when they FINALLY let us in it was a mad rush of pushing from the people that JUST got there and the people that had waited for hours. Needless to say we got a crap spot while others basically walked right in after 7 and got front and center.

I think EBS and HW put on a great show, I'm pretty convinced on buying HW's album now. I really didn't enjoy it since I was so pissed off.

I decided I wouldn't let a bunch of retards that don't understand the physics of letting a line of people into a building completely ruin the show, so I went crazy for Kamelot and they put on a killer show.

I know it won't help anything and nothing can make up for the BS that is the Masquerade, but it is nice to let it out. At least we weren't the only ones that got screwed over, I didn't see very many people that were ahead of us originally up front either. Still pisses me off that there is absolutely nothing that can be done about it...

I'm all about supporting the music, but I'll be damned if I go to another show there. Progpower has ruined me I guess, I expect a competent staff and no BS when I go to other shows, what a rude awakening...

Hey man! It was great meeting you last night and getting to talk with you for a while! Sorry the Shagrath thing didn't work out, but I know you tried your best. How was the Dimmu set, BTW?

Kamelot should remember they have more than 2 albums. Other than that, great show. EBS the song I heard while walking in sounded great ;) I hate to be critical.. but Sean were you not feeling well?

p.s. I think you are nuts showing up to a venue 2 hours before doors open hoping to get a spot on the rail... especially at a small venue.

The sound sucked and they said if they caught you with a camera, they'd take your chip and throw you out!! It was still a killer show, though. We had a great time!
EBS and HW rocked!

Nice to meet you 7thSaviour!

Hey guys...thanks for the kind words. We thought EbS really brought it as well last night. It was a great opportunity and I'm glad we both got a chance to do the gig. However, as I'm sure some of you heard, the club ran that show basically like a bunch of 7th graders in AV class.

Let me tell you what was going on at that show. This was without a doubt the most difficult show we have ever played.

First, we were supposed to load in at 5pm. We got there, and found out that Kamelot had a "closed soundcheck" meaning that no one else was allowed in there, including the other bands on the bill. So we managed to get our gear up into the club and had to basically stick it wherever we could, and we could not set our rigs up to troubleshoot, tune guitars, etc. Without any instruction from staff, we pushed our rigs up onto the side of the stage, out of the way, so we could move them over onto the stage when instructed. We'd had them there for 15 minutes when the stage manager came over and threw a fit, and told us to take them down because they were "in the way". 10-15 feet away from anything they were doing. So that's lame, first - you don't want our stuff up there? Fine. Tell us that when the load in was going on.

Kamelot were having all sorts of issues with their piped in stuff, and they were not finished with their soundcheck until about 7:15. In the meantime, a few of us had gone to get dinner. We got back, and found out that we could finally get our stuff set up.

This is where it started to really suck.

We (meaning HW and EbS) were told the following:

1. Guitars were not going to be mic'd or run through the PA.
2. Bass was not going to be run through the PA.
3. The only drum being mic'd was the bass drum.
4. Oh, and by the way - both bands had to switch a vocal mic to a snare mic.

And, for HW, this meant that we could not use our intro, or our click track, or the keyboard parts that we pipe in that are sync'd to the click track. So we had to go back mentally on each song and do them like we did 2 years ago, on the fly. We also could not do all of our vocal parts, because we needed 3 backup mics.

So, we had....count 'em.....5 total mics on stage. 5.

Needless to say, our monitor mix was nonexistent. All that could be heard on stage was fuzz and hiss, and whatever amp you happened to be standing in front of.

There was absolutely no support, technical or otherwise, from the venue or the headliner's crew. We were told that Kamelot would not allow "their" channels on the board to be used for the opening acts.

Seriously. This is just lame. Was the headliner trying to make sure that the openers made them look good? Was the club just beyond caring? I promise you guys....the worst show we ever did was at a skate park. We thought, "hey this will be cool, play on a half pipe, got a bunch of skaters here, etc". The PA that the club had? A Radio Shack Realistic. No lie.

This was worse, I have to say. You know, as support, you don't expect to be treated like a king or anything, and that's cool. Kamelot have worked hard for their success, and they deserve it. My beef is just the overall lack of professionalism. We try to act like professionals - we showed up at the precise load-in time we were instructed, we came with our guitars set up and tuned, we have our setup where we can get right on stage and bang out soundcheck, etc. We did everything we were instructed to do. So to be treated like homeless bums was not cool.

In spite of all that - and this is what it's really about, anyway - we had a good time playing and hanging out with everyone, so in the end it was worth it. And....it was very cool to see everyone afterwards, and we will see you on 11/8!!!
