Awesome show in Rome, i have no words for the crazy playlist! And they're using 2 Laboga mr Hector in chain for guitar! Plus the guys replacing the Norman bros (sorry for the Norman) definitely gave a boost to the band.
See them if u can

sounds cool!

i saw them last year at the summer breeze open air, and i was severly disappointed :( either their music just doesn't work live (might be possible with all the ambient stuff they're using), or they just sucked. especially the vocalist was way off all the time.
a shame, since i love katatonia's albums, especially TGCD and the new one.
they even butchered teargas, one of my alltime fave songs....i still wonder whether they just had an off day or not.

probably yes, even if they were not that good anyway since the last year. The singer still has some difficult moments hehe this is undeniable

I saw them headlining in September '07, and even though they were using Damage Control pedals into the tour backline amps (Randall T2 full stacks), they sounded fantastic, and were 100% on performance wise! :headbang:

I saw them there too and walked away after a few songs - I was so disappointed.

However I gave them a second chance because I love their new album, so I went to see them when they started of their current tour here in Hamburg.
Completely different experience, they had good sound and Jonas actually did a good job with the vocals (although he admitted that they were all very nervous). The atmosphere and ambience actually worked very well in the rather intimate club setting.
So I put them in the same category as Opeth - I can recommend seeing them in a club, but not so much on a big festival.

Saw them exactly a week ago in Madrid, excellent show. Same setup with the Labogas. I gotta say, the guitarrist kicks total ass and even sings some good vocal harmonies, but the bassist dude sucks really, the accoustics at the venue sucked and bass was bouncing everywhere, but that isn´t excuse, I´m a bassist so very critical with them live.

That's cool man. Per-Ericsson..ermm Sodomizer, the 2nd guitarist of Bloodbath is with them atm. I wouldn't doubt that it was a good show! What was the encore?

Saw them 1 hour ago. Very very great show! The new guys are really talented, great vocal harmonies and also the bass player did good job.

I really thought the bass player wasn't good, filling Mattias' shoes is very hard and of course I'm not saying that I'm better than him cause I'm definitely not, but his performance as far as execution, stage presence and tone really fell behind in comparison to the rest of the band and in comparison to Mattias. He probably just had a bad day in Madrid for what I know.

This was the setlist in madrid, My wife took a picture of Per's setlist taped to the floor monitor cause we were very close to where he was. Tonight's music was actually erased with a marker (as was For my Demons, but they didn't play that one, unfortunately) and they played it by Jonas' mistake I think, he introduced the song and Daniel went nuts giving everyone faces and telling jonas something (probably saying it wasn't in the setlist so he didn't have the backing track for it)

I gotta say, I think it's great that bands like Katatonia play live to a backing track and all sync'd up to ear monitors with click track, personally I find that very professional and shows how tight they really are as a band cause if they were loose around the click then it would all sound like a total mess of shit (and I do exactly that in my own band), but I find it really odd to the live feeling that they don't even mark into the songs not even once, I really feel the drummer hitting the hi-hat to start the song is really important to the live feel and they don't do it not once in the whole set, they just suddenly all start playing at the same time haha

Gotta add, Swallow the Sun really surprised me, a great band live and I really like their albums, I bought a really awesome STS hoodie after the show and met and got pics with all the guys (STS, katatonia guys never came out while I was there)
This is the setlist for STS in Madrid

Yeah I was really impressed in how well they started play the songs without any hat hit. They have click and vocal markers for sure.
I noticed they had 2 setlists attached on the wall near the guitar tech, and every setlist had big numbers at the right of the song titles, probably the number of the guitar (different tuning) for each song.
The second setlist have different numbers and different songs but they played only the first.

A gift for you, you can thank my lady for this:

All the guitars had their number (#1, #2) written on a tape on the back, and had the full tuning of it on tape along the back of the neck

Yeah exacty. Here the setlist had big numbers wrote with the felt-tip and I deduced it was the guitar number for the different tunings. Other guitarist use only 1 guitar and he changed manually the tuning or used a capo.

They may not have audible (to the audience) song intros but that doesn't mean they don't have them. If they're using in-ears (I don't know whether they do or not), they can have click/vocal markers OR Daniel can have a pad that he can hit for a count (ala the hat) but it's only to the monitors. I know Dream Theater does this now as well (Portnoy counts the song in on a pad that only goes to their monitors.)
