Fender Mustang I
I got it in mint condition at a low price. Basically that's my go to "quick training amp" at home (i still live with my parents). The effects are really good, you can have a lot of fun with this amp, clean tones are incredible, crunch are okay but for distortion i just stick in a line 6 uber metal pedal a friend gave me : It helped me out a lot of times and i got so used to it i can't bother to get another pedal anyway.
What's cool with this amp is the usb port. You can download several sounds each stored in different banks and tweak them. Fender do post updates, reminds me i should check if there's a new one. With the amp comes ableton live and fender fuse. For a beginner who wishes to jam at home, test out a lot of different sounds and start recording it's pretty much what you need.
Bugera 6262 (sold it)
My first high gain amp. I was sceptical at first because of all the reviews when bugera started out. But fuck that, dat amp had a great sound. Not so much in the low end i now realize. But compared to a 6505, the bugera has a much nicer reverb, suitable cleans maybe even good and of course had no reason to be shy next to the peavey when comparing the lead channel. And for the price... well that sealed the deal. But after 2 years i had to sell it because it was too powerfull for my use.
Randall Rh 150 G3 +
I'm never letting go of this amp. Basically i'm a huge Dimebag/PanterA/Damageplan/Down fan (just saw Down last wednesday, phil is cool when speaking in spanish, making weird animal noises and wasted with you
Whatever people say, IMO good transistor amps simply offer a different type of sound. I do prefer tubes but when i get tired of them i just plug into my randall and blast some pantera riffs. The palm mutes are HUGE coming from that amp. This monster has tons of gain in its belly ! What i like the most about this baby is the EQ, you have a wide panel of sounds, so have a beer and take your time discovering this amp. Only con is the effects loop which doesn't work so good. Oh yeah and the cleans are surprisingly good for an amp like that.
Peavey 5150 Block Letter
This is my fav amp. I've always dreamed of getting my hands on this amp and now i've finally got one. For an excellent price, i just couldn't refuse.
The amp's clean tone just sucks. Basically it hasn't got a clean channel, it's just a crunch channel with no gain so of course the clean is lifeless.
But the lead channel... Greatest mids in the universe. Highs can be aggressive but you have to learn how to tame that beast.
I use a Maxon od808 and an ISP G String noise gate = eargasm.
I'm still learning how to dial it for my recordings. I use different settings in each situation.
Live settings is pretty simple :
pre gain 6 or 7,
low 6,
mid 6/7,
high 5,
resonance is about 5 or 6
and presence 4
Whereas recording settings (preamp signal out with cabs impulses)
Pre gain 5
low 4
mid 0 or just add some more depending on the IR used and what sound i want
high 4
resonance 5 or 6
presence 8
Post gain is always up to 3 or 4
Harley Benton G212V cab (V30s)
First and only cab i have. What's so great about this cab is the price and you only have to do some simple modifications to make it sound even better (like getting rid of some stupid foam, varnish the inside etc.) V30s can be annoying with high frequencies but i just set the amp accordingly and boom no big deal.
