Lopez Vs Portnoy

Martin Lopez. I think portnoy is highly overrated, he sure is skilled but I don't like the way he drums.

Lopez gets my vote. True Portnoy has some serious skills, but he plays in Dream Theater and we all know they just show off and his drumming doesn't come out with the same feeling as Lopez's does.

Seeing how this is the Opeth board, I wouldn't expect this poll to be close. Portnoy is more skilled. Portnoy also writes music and lyrics. Lopez just shows up and plays. Plays very well. Portnoy is the better musician.

He may write songs and lyrics but of what I've heard of his stuff I don't like it, and since this is an opinion poll it just is about opinions and in my Lopez is the one that appeal to me more than the other(I hope my language in this post made some kind of sense)

i couldnt vote....two of my favorite drummers head to head?! theres no way i could choose! I love both Portnoy and Lopez! they are both awesome in their own rights! they both do not exceed eachother...

I like both Opeth and DT. All I can say is, can you imagine Portoy in Opeth or Lopez in DT? I can't. So I can't really compare the two. Both are good drummers, though (I'm not counting the songwriting skills).

Their styles are just totally different. Lopez sounds more like a jazz drummer, while Portnoy is a rock drummer. Not sure if this really makes sense, but that's the way I hear it.

In terms of who I like more, it's Lopez. Portnoy seems like such a stuck up ass. Kind of like a stuck up ass. Anyways personality wise I like Lopez more, but when it comes to skill Portnoy wins by a little bit.
