Madness?!? This is RC!

i like "fallen idols" march madness pinkage idea...but do we count debut as first release or first full-length, or just whatever's more appropriate?

these may not match the "pink" category as much as the "just generally suck now" category, but i wanted to throw a few out there:

arch enemy - black earth
behemoth - sventevith
burzum - aske
celtic frost - morbid tales, or to mega therion if we're going by first full length<---winner
cryptopsy - blasphemy made flesh

i mean, you could make a real case that cryptopsy are pinker than obama these days :loco:

monotheist rules like nobody's fucking business and that's that

Most of what comes to mind is already listed. I'm wavering on these:

Cradle of Filth - The Principle of Evil made Flesh (I loved this when it came out but, for many who came into the fold after the fact, they have always been shit)

Opeth - Orchid (not so sure it is as much pink as it is progression into something I don't like nearly as much as the earlier material)

Metallica - Kill 'Em All (they just plain suck now)

That was the original purpose of the thread Dorian.

You list the excellent debut of a band that has since then turned pink.

It does sort of apply to Opeth, except that the path they have followed is likely what Akerfeldt always wanted all along.

Even though I don't like them I'd say:

Gorgoroth - Antrichrist

Went pink in more than one way.

Pentagram is the debut album of those chocolate surfers.

Opeth definitely qualify, as the intention of the artist to turn or not turn pink is irrelevant. Using Ghaal as an example, if he were to sniff a pickle, he'd be a pickle sniffer for life. Whether that pickle was a private disgrace that was welcomed or a violation beneath the moon propositioned under duress has little bearing.

Additional candidates

Samael - Worship Him
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
Sentenced - Shadows of the Past

Alcest - Le Secret (? or was he always pink?)
was therion listed?
amorphis (even though i love their later stuff)
Jesu - Heartache
Megadeth - Killing is my Business
Type O Negative - Slow Deep and Hard
Fear Factory - SOul of a New Machine
Carcass - Reek of Putrefaction

Indeed, not sure why I decided to put Antichrist.

Alcest and Amesoeurs were always pink, but they are good and Neige was in Mortifera and is in Peste Noire, so I can let it slide.

Oh. I was very tired when I read this thread.
Anyway, just out of curiosity, what's pink about Opeth?

Let's not confuse pink with shitty.

A band like Cryptopsy isn't playing pink music, just horrifically shitty music. Hence, they do not qualify.

Certifiable pink bands mentioned thus far...

Therion - Of Darkness
Tiamat - Sumerian Cry
My Dying Bride - As the Flower Withers
Amon Amarth - Once Sent from the Golden Hall
anathema "serenades"
paradise lost "lost paradise"
bethlehem "dark metal"
blind guardian "battalions of fear"
cemetary "an evil shade of grey"
in flames "lunar strain"
dimmu borgir "for all tid"
Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus
Green Carnation - Journey To The End Of Night
Helloween - Walls of Jericho
Katatonia - Dance of December Souls
Samael - Worship Him

Everything else is mas o menos.

In Flames didn't really go pink. They just suck.

In Flames surely did go pink.

It's spinning, further deeper
I know you're out to try me
I'm not in this to be your slave
push the dirt, make me feel
Locate what swallows life then burn to be in our world

And then I close my eyes (and then I close my eyes)
Hold me, make a dead man come
Oh make him come
Yum, so tart

Faggots!
Compare this (Korn with better musicianship)

to this...

Does it have to be pink or do we count all kinds of non-satan metal asskick?
Ulver for example, or Vintersorg, or Beherit, would they count?
You may be pleased to hear that Beherit have successfully un-non-metalled.

Although "successfully" might prove to be a matter of interpretation.

Let's do best debut by a band that turned pink.

Now for the participants... Suggestions?

Potential entries

Therion - Of Darkness
Tiamat - Sumerian Cry
My Dying Bride - As the Flower Withers
The Gathering - Always
Amon Amarth - Once Sent from the Golden Hall

Once we've decided on the contenders, I'll upload a rar packet with an mp3 sample from each of the participants. (Limit 32)

This was a pretty good idea fwiw.
