So I just accidentally potentially deleted all the files that were on my girlfriend's computer. Basically she had her computer reformatted today and used my external hard drive to put all her files on it. Well I came home and there was my hard drive on my desk, so I assumed the whole thing was taken care of. I sat down and erased it and was about to run a back up when it hit me that I should probably have called her first to make sure all was set with what she was doing. Well, she wasn't.
I freaked out, but luckily one of my housemates is a computery person and he is currently running a recovery program. I hope to the gods it works.
Point of the story is that I am an absent minded bloke, but my girlfriend completely understood the situation and didn't lash at me or even showed signs of being mad at me. It probably has to do with the fact that she realized it was her fault for not having important files stored in some place OTHER than her computer (such as DropBox). As they say, if a file exists in only one place, it doesn't exist.
Moral of the story: women are unpredictable, sometimes even for the better.

Dude, the best thing you can do is give her time and evaluate your own situation. If there is any advice I could give it's never live (not that you are) through another person.
In time she will come around and I'd recommend finding the truth. What she wants in her life as well as whether or not she knows herself enough to be committed to another person is quite important.
I don't know about you but I don't want to end up with a person who isn't sure and will end up leaving me 5-10 years later. This is probably a good thing for her and for you to reassess how you both feel and what you both want for yourselves in the future.

Not quite. There have been stories of people doing just that and still losing everything because keeping it all on separate devices is fine, but if they are all in the same physical location, then all it takes is a robbery or a fire.
Hence, online storage media such as DropBox are a godsend.

When I'm doing an essay and have written say a page of it I'll save it onto a flash drive, my hd and an external hard drive and then when it's done, email it to myself.

See, that is probably a good point. Actually my bank offers free storage deposit boxes. Like I forget the name of them, you know like they are in a vault and its like a pull out drawer or something, those fucking things. I just might have to buy another external and put all my valuable porn on there and lock that shit up.
